Welcome to the Daily Buzz, the logbook for this wiki. Use this as a general place for members of the active AboutUs community to share conversation about what's happening here at AboutUs. If you're looking for a place to make suggestions, comments, ask questions, go to the ContactUs page. What defines "community"? Well, if you're here then you're part of the community; go ahead and share your thoughts. It would be great if you created an account, and here are 5 Great Reasons to Make a Personal Page. Please add items that are interesting and fun, but not AboutUs or Wiki related to DailyFun! |

- When I put lists of links to organisations online I often worry that I am only offering one point of view about that organisation. It would be great if AboutUs had a small but easily readable icon then people could visit the AboutUs page by clicking on the small logo. I know that a small icon appears in the address bar but this is not quite what I had in mind.

- Imagine if Wikipedia were not a reference work but a change effort. Imagine if every hour spent working on that was spent working for the world we want. And imagine if we could choose the pieces to work on, contributing where we can, unafraid to make mistakes and muddle through and sense the success with nothing to lose and everything to gain… weblog post via Chris Corrigan. - WikiVille.org.uk is closing its doors, it looks like it lost the fight against wiki spam bots. This is one of the reasons I am excited about our wiki AboutUs. We have lots of people here to revert test edits and we have a technology staff to fight spam robots. ~~ MarkDilley

- Heads up to Brandon Sanders and other AboutUs Techies. Might want to get hold of the “Scientific American” August 2007 issue and read the “Data Center in a Box” article on page 90. This has relevance to radically reducing aboutus infrastructure cost. Sun Microsystem’s gurus (previously with super computer “Thinking Machines Inc”) have enabled massive “cheap” computing power delivered to anyone’s doorstep inside a 20 foot shipping container. the article also mentions its application to social networking, cloud computing, etc. Sun claims it can provide an operational turnkey system for one-hundredth the cost of building traditional data centers. - New ways for AboutUs to use consensus polling. -- MartinPfahler
- Wiki-blogging is an issue that has been with me since this whole crazy wiki trip began, or nearly. After many months of not being able to describe wiki in a way that people understood, I turned to the weblogs. Weblogs are good because they are a one to many communication. That is pretty counter to wiki, unless you are trying to do what Brian Kerr describes in his weblog post (that was posted here on Friday, 08-Jun-2007). Window dressing. DeveloperTesting.com posts about this and it looks as if Alistar Cockburn.us [5] is getting traction with the whole wiki weblog idea. His is a MediaWiki and it the form looks and feels good. - Heya'll. I've added a slightly modified famfamfam icon for use in signatures. In your Preferences, under UserProfile -> NickName add the following:
- [[YourName]] {{SUBST: Clickpic|User_talk:YourName|http://images.aboutus.org/images/1/1a/Comment_green.gif}}Make sure to mark the Raw signatures (without automatic link) box. In the end, when you're done and want to sign off, the three tildes (~~~) will show something like this - Vinh Nguyen
Also make sure you replace "YourName" with your AboutUs user name.
- The downside of this, of course, is the lengthy bit of text added to the page. If only image links were easier! In fact, I really have a problem with the lengthy text now. I'd say, don't use it yet.
