- Tim Wilkinson was the production director for the book publisher The Folio Society in the 1970s, and my boss. He was a talented typographer and a man of firm views, and I'm still grateful for the licence he gave an enthusiastic but inexperienced beginner in the trade. His own preferences were for the austere, but commercial pressures from other directors and the members often demanded a more gaudy design approach. Such efforts were inevitably met by the riposte, ‘Plenty of taste, and all of it bad’.
