Added some thoughts
Hey, Just wanted to let you know that I added some thoughts to the bottom of Questionable_Content_Policy/Talk...hope to get your input. Thanks, Isabel 16:59, 4 September 2007 (PDT)
Re: Spam Sites Question on TedErnst's Talk
I saw your question on Ted's page, and looked at the sites in question. They look like link farms to me, and we usually use {{ParkingLot}} rather than {{PossibleSpamSite}} on those. I usually remove the categories from such pages as well. DrewMyers | talk
Please be careful when editing pages
When you edited NewSkin you accidentally removed my comments. :) --Joey 20:04, 5 September 2007 (PDT)
Glossay
See Template:Undelete and No Bot Policy. And the "rollback" function is a sysop one that rolls back to the last version of the page by the last user, so if User:X makes 5 terrible edits the rollback function will automatically take the page back to what the page was like before he last started editing, which is a little quicker than a normal revert. More recent glossary terms haven't necessarily been added there which is something I might try to work on a bit. KristinaWeis 15:21, 6 September 2007 (PDT)

WelcomingPeople
It's great to see you helping out by WelcomingPeople!!!! It's one of my favorite things to do on the wiki and I think it holds great potential. On the WelcomingPeople page are some ideas on how to leave the ideal message if you would like to add your thoughts - also this is where we keep track of who we have welcomed by day. Have a great night, and welcome to the elite club of welcomers ;) KristinaWeis 01:34, 9 September 2007 (PDT)
reports about spammers
Hi MB, please feel free to give those reports to any member of the CommunityTeam. No need to report more than once, just pick one of us, and we'll take care of it. If you'd like to help us develop a system of escalating talk page warnings, where the top-level warning automatically notifies a sysop, let me know and we'll see how to work on that together. peace, TedErnst | talk 22:50, 9 September 2007 (PDT)
- Oh, I have ideas about that. Maybe a warning system like this: They get one warning. If they disregard that warning, they get a second, more final statement template that puts their talk page in a special category that admins can watch. If they see a user in that category, it's block time. Nathan (talk) 23:12, 9 September 2007 (PDT)
Yes, that's the kind of thing I had in mind, Nathan. TedErnst | talk 23:17, 9 September 2007 (PDT)
- Ah yes, it's one of those occasions where we're on exactly the same wavelength. Coolbeans. Nathan (talk) 23:20, 9 September 2007 (PDT)
- The wording in those warnings could probably be something like (formerly deleted but restored for discussion) User:Nathan/spam-2 and User:Nathan/spam-3, with a nice pretty 'caution' graphic, etc.
- Warning level #1: Welcome to AboutUs. Please do not spam. Spam is not permitted here on AboutUs.
- Warning level #2: (something more severe I can't think of because it's too late in the morning + "if you continue, you may be blocked from editing") Nathan (talk) 23:26, 9 September 2007 (PDT)
I like your Idea Ted and I see Nathan is still as great as he is and still on the ball. Being able to warn a sysop through a tag would be much better than to see if a staff member is on hand. --DannyG | talk 05:57, 10 September 2007 (PDT)
- Hmm. Something that automatically flags any sysop that's online? That's the hard part. Nathan (talk) 11:11, 10 September 2007 (PDT)
RC Patrol
Drop MarkDilley a line about patrolling. He handles all of that, but he's been on vacation.... DrewMyers | talk 19:46, 10 September 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for the Welcome, DannyG. I didn't even know I had a Talk page. Windybanks 13:17, 11 September 2007 (PDT)Windybanks
Hi
I just saved my new page a few minutes ago. I looked at the list of new users and thought, "There's so many, no one will know I'm here."
I just got a welcome too. I'm trying to get my fan sites to show here before the sun sets.
Not only do we have talk pages, but it looks like there's always plenty of people around. Thanks for the encouragement. Edited this post to check the signature. Carole Danforth | talk 15:37, 11 September 2007 (PDT)
conflict mediation
Hey danny, I plan on working on it today as well as will try to find a few more people who may wihs to explore this idea.. I will get back to you.. --DaughertyBw 06:17, 12 September 2007 (PDT)
Hello!
Hi Danny, nice job welcoming :-) I especially like your Just to let you know I am not a bot. Best, MarkDilley
Thank You
thank you DannyG for your help. I appreciate it very much wjjbt68
Your Welcome, I guess .. just not sure how I helped you. :) --DannyG | talk 13:41, 12 September 2007 (PDT)
welcoming
Hi Danny, I just noticed one of your welcoming messages that had in it {{PAGENAME}}. While it would be great to personalize every note, we don't really have the people-power yet to do that, so pasting in a template like you're doing is okay. And, it would be probably better to use {{subst:PAGENAME}}. Actually, I'm suspecting this doesn't work, so here's a test
- {{PAGENAME}} DannyG/Talk1
- {{subst:PAGENAME}} DannyG
Okay, that works fine, if it's just that template, but it's a whole welcome message, yes? So this doesn't work. Hmm. What about manually typing the user name, and then {{YourWelcomeTemplate}}? Would that work? TedErnst | talk 22:03, 12 September 2007 (PDT)
- Sorry, I wasn't clear. I wasn't talking about the rendered page, I was talking about the "edit" page. When some you've welcomed click's edit, they see the {{PAGENAME}}. That's what I was referring to. To see what I mean, go back to anyone you've welcomed and click "edit" again. Make sense?
- As for the other stuff, you weren't online when I was asking about how it was done. I was trying to understand how it was done from people that were a part of it. Simon seemed to be a part of it, so I was asking him. Wasn't trying to hide from you or go around you. You had a banner day! Very cool. One thing Simon said was if the person had edited something, then the welcomer personalized the message to include references to what they edited. Until your work yesterday, that was the focus of welcoming, to only do those that have edited something, and to make it highly personalized, about what they have done so far. What you did yesterday seems much wider (catching more people) and potentially shallower (for those that have edited). What do you think about this? Kristina is our most experienced welcomer, which is why I reached out to her after the IRC interaction. I'm thinking that this is worth some more conversation. What do you think? TedErnst | talk 08:24, 13 September 2007 (PDT)
- I definitely like what you're doing, no question about that. The reason to talk with Kristina, in my opinion, is to decide if what we were doing before is still worth doing (the deeper approach), and if it is, how can we do both? We should probably copy this discussion (pieced back together) to an appropriate task or project page for welcoming. Are you interested in doing that? TedErnst | talk 08:36, 13 September 2007 (PDT)
Okay, I've started here: WelcomeAllRegisteredContributers between Sep 1st and 15#further discussion to be refactored. I'm going to now try to reconstruct the conversation. TedErnst | talk 08:53, 13 September 2007 (PDT)
Good Idea..
I agree, I will help you with the list, although it may be a moment since I have to sepak to a claims adjuster this morn due to some young kid who hit my truck while I was stopped at a red light! but I will be back on here ASAP! --DaughertyBw 06:10, 13 September 2007 (PDT)
afraid.org
Thanks Danny. I'd need help if I dump .Mac for a better domain name, that's for sure. It's nostalgia (this is my first computer, and I love it) staying with .Mac and trying to work with it. I'm feeling better - 1) I got all my wiki stuff up here and I've been most jealous of Wikipedia "official" links for awhile - great that other wikis exist for "unofficial" fansites. 2) the G spider has started crawling my site more often. That's a VERY good sign. By the way, this is a pretty wiki with easy-to-use "talk". I like the AboutUs logo. Carole Danforth | talk 13:22, 13 September 2007 (PDT)
PossibleSpamSites
I created a page in OurWork for reporting spam. Feel free to take a look at PossibleSpamSites and add yourself if you wish. Feel free to edit the page, add suggestions, etc. I added some tips to help people get started with the process. Let me know what you think. :) Nathan (talk) 22:21, 14 September 2007 (PDT)
Thanks
Thanks for the tip Danny. I suspect my site will be live in a couple of weeks – all the best –johnmamus.com
Image help
Hi, I still cannot figure out how to upload images. It says
"upload the picture in any standard file format to the site, using the "upload file" link in the "toolbox" area on the left of each page."
...but I don't see a "Toolbox" or an "Upload" link anywhere.
Please assist.
Regards,
Mark Wolk
Stackzilla.com
Danny, I would really appreciate some of your technical help with my site. You seem to have a muchbetter understanding then me. :) there are alot of ideas I have but, I dont feel as if I completely understand the ways and means to achieve them! Also, Take a look at Translation again as well as the link I added to Alenc.com, Wha do you think of the easy english translation? I am sure that this is just one step towards the ultimate long-term goal! - have you any experience with mambowiki component>? I was looking at it today on Joomla.org. Hope all is well and I will be around all day for the most part including on IRC! Talk 2 Bryan!
- Ok, So I dl and installed those compon/mod, I would love to have you reg at the site, and perhaps take a look at the backend, to make sure everything is in order as well as to let you see whats back there, is this something you have time for? I have noticed that I am having trouble with the mail and msging internally... If you have time let me know.. Like I said I really am ecstatic that I have someone to answer some of my "dumb" questions! thanks danny, let me know and i will give you admin access.. Bryan
- Hey Danny! I like the improvements you made! They look good~! now I just have to find more stuff to add to the sides.. --DaughertyBw 13:26, 17 September 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for the image help
... I finally spotted the "Useful links" line on the right.
What was confusing me is that the page http://www.aboutus.org/ImageHelp mentioned
the "upload file" link in the "toolbox" area on the left of each page.
With my reiterated thanks,
Kind regards,

Those both look pretty good, I like. I'm a little confused by "discussing on the Discussion tabs of pages," mostly because we don't really use/have the discussion tabs except on personal pages. One thing I would suggest is that for people that have made an edit you could make mention of what page they have been working on and perhaps a comment about the site or their work on the page. Also, I thought of an idea that I'd like to try out for logging the sorts of welcomes that we are all doing in a different way - see what I've laid out of the 18th on WelcomingPeople. I'm so happy to see you welcoming... it's really great! KristinaWeis 15:53, 17 September 2007 (PDT)
- The IRC idea sounds great, I will just have to remind myself to jump in there more often. Sounds good, I leave tomorrow for vacation until Monday as a heads-up so keep up the awesome welcoming in my absence, k? :) Cheers, KristinaWeis 00:00, 19 September 2007 (PDT)
"Nurturing" Featured Nominees
Hey Danny,
- As you probably know (better than I do since I've only been here a month), Featured pages are an essential aspect of the community work as they encourage the AboutUs community to grow (see ProcessFeaturedNominations and NurtureNominees). We've had a new crop grow this time round and you are welcome to participate in these featured page discussions. Peace, Umair | talk
