You can navigate to your own talk page by clicking "my talk" in the upper right top menu, and if you are on another user's page you can usually hit the "user talk" tab at the top of their PersonalPage (or the "talk" link by them in the history of a page or in recent changes) .
When an edit is made to your talk page you will be notified by your right personal box turning yellow with a message alert. Also, depending on your preferences you may also be notified by e-mail when a change is made to your talk page.
