- My name is Brent and I am a geek, but before this starts to sound like an AA confession, I wanted to clarify what I believe being a geek means to me. As I am glancing about the Internet, I have started to notice that being a geek might not be such a bad thing. It used to be that the geek was the nerdy kid in school that wore a pair of broken glasses, taped in the middle to hold them together and made a disgusting snorting sound when they laughed. The term nerd or geek in my generation was a way of referring to another in a derogatory or demeaning manner.
