Welcome to AboutUs. I've noticed your edits to (I've been meaning to check that page). The map tool isn't working with the site so I'll tinker with it for a while. You know, I haven't been bothered to go to the Ex ever since I moved to Ottawa... Nathan (talk) / 04:03, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

re OttawaSuperEx's address: I was thinking of doing that but 12:03am EDT was way too early for me to do much of anything productive. Nathan (talk) / 18:55, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Eohippus. Thanks for the note about the Marin County category- we generally discourage people linking to sites from the category page. It's preferred to have a description of what that category means or is (if it's not obvious), but we discourage links because they're all shown in the main box of the category page. In addition, a lot of people spam our category pages and try to advertise themselves, so that's why we avoid links altogether. Let me know if you have any more comments or questions about this. Isabel 09:37, 18 June 2007 (PDT)

Hello Eohippus- as far as the categories you mentioned are concerned, the reason Category:Wallpaper is blue and the other two aren't is simply because there is a "related categories" section within that category. The other two categories do actually exist and could still potentially be useful categories, regardless of if there is user generated text or related categories added in to that page. Some categories do benefit from a bit of user generated text to explain the idea or history of that particular category. However, in the wallpaper case, it's best not to add anything, as it's self explanatory. To address your last question of merging, it would be best to leave "desktop wallpaper" separate from the other two, as it is a separate concept (your house versus computers). However, the singular and plural issue of "wallpaper" and "wallpapers" is something that we have discussed and plan to do something about in the future. Does that clear things up a bit? Let me know if you have other questions, Isabel 09:51, 5 July 2007 (PDT)

Hi, I added a category tag to your PersonalPage that I believe seems fitting and likely long overdue. Feel free to revert my SuggestedEdit or fill out your PersonalPage (see 5 Great Reasons to Make a Personal Page). Have a great day!
KristinaWeis | **talk** 13:54, 6 July 2007 (PDT)
I agree, this is something that we discussed since the "case-space-duplicates" issue was dealt with a month or so ago, but as far as I know no solution has been reached and we do not have a work-around. I will bring it up to them if they didn't already notice your note via patrolling Special:RecentChanges. This is something I have had problems with when there is user John and john for example and it won't let me get to one of the pages, etc. But getting rid of and blocking duplicates was a nice thing overall as we had a few thousand pages that were the same save a capital letter, etc. We are going through an upgrade to a newer version of MediaWiki and because of this we have been making preparations such as the case-space thing and downsizing categories and related domains in general, so likely this is something that will be fixed after this upgrade. If you want to go straight to the source, here are links to a few of our dev guys... User:Stephen Judkins, User:Jason Parmer, Brandon CS Sanders. Hmm, I just tried jumping into the AboutUs IRC to ask around but no one seems to be alive and kicking right now.

Geographic subdomains

Hi! I think it is in the pipes, but I also think it would get more traction if you went ahead and suggested a project for this idea. I think it is easy to do, we are just getting it together. Well, doesn't look like a one click option is available for development yet, but check out DevelopmentTeamPriorities and either ask to elevate a project or add a suggested one on this. How does that sound? Best, MarkDilley

I left the domain name lapse this week because the org never got off the ground. Are you interested in this, or just noticed it? TedErnst

I'm definitely a big transit fan myself as well. Glad to see you here on AboutUs! TedErnst

AboutUsLogo and WhoWeAre

Hi Eohippus, we're trying to finish a process of accepting a logo to replace the listening man we have now. The idea is to approve the proposal now, and then work on WhoWeAre. Interested in helping? Add yourself by putting you name in the box on the AboutUsLogo page and update the boilerplate that's filled in. Please let me know if you need help. Thanks! Obed Suhail

Oh thanks! That makes a lot of sense and something I have been doing, I just didn't realize I was. I've been simplifying the names on some of the Help pages and I've changed the links in the other places I knew they were, but I hadn't even thought to use the "what links here" feature. Ah, I love wiki. KristinaWeis
Big Thanks from me too. I'll make sure I check that. I'm pleased that I've got the convention right - capitalization of words. I was confused a few days ago after another User changed a page name out of convention. --User:Di | talk 16:25, 15 July 2007 (PDT)

Hey Hi there. Can you tell me what to do with this page Someone changed it to "arohatours" but I've changed it back in line with convention and so it's easier to read the NZ Maori name. Do I also change the discussion page arohatours as it's a redirect to ArohaTours. what do I change pls. thanks --User:Di | talk 17:15, 15 July 2007 (PDT)

That's a great idea, thanks! I'll look into it - Ray | talk

Hi Eohippus, Sorry about the confusion. I saw the second domain box with a thumbnail for instead of and thought it was someone from trying to hijack the page. This is a common tactic and I mistakenly did not look into the page as closely as I should have. I have changed the site back to your much more complete, thorough version and removed the extra domain box. Thanks for the great work and sorry for my mistake.

AboutUsLogo and WhoWeAre

Hi Eohippus, I left you a note here: AboutUsLogo:Status/Eohippus. Best, Obed Suhail 01:22, 19 July 2007 (PDT)

I have also left a note there. I look forward to hearing from you. TedErnst
Thank you! I'm going to garden your comments so only the current version remains. Feel free to revert my edits if they're not okay with you. I'll leave it alone after that. peace, TedErnst

Hi..I was looking at some Recently edited pages and noticed this one. You've added categories but have you got the syntax wrong as they haven't listed in categories but as text. I see you've used [{ instead of [[. I was going to fix them but I don't want to mess up if what you did is deliberate ;-) --User:Di | talk 06:37, 20 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Not deliberate, just bad typing. Thanks for noticing. I fixed the problems you spotted. --Eohippus 06:39, 20 July 2007 (PDT)

re: Category:Adult Content

Is there a project page for this effort? I'm not clear on the value-add to the wiki. I know there is a project for implimenting the AdultContentPolicy and want to make sure this is one and the same with that, rather than an additional effort potentially working at cross-purposes. peace, TedErnst please take it OUT! Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talkcontribs) 01:24, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Eohippus
The above comment and similar is being left on many of our User pages. Someone quite upset about a Related Domains link. I've taken out the Related Domains link that he doesn't want BUT he's deleted the content of the other page in an attempt to take it off his Related Domains (he must really dislike that link. I'm smiling here!) and it wont resolve on my computer (maybe a redirect) so I can't restore the page.. so what now? Maybe when the page will resolve I or you can restore it.
See my talk page for his talk to me..why me? I don't know. --User:Di | talk 19:00, 23 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Forgot to add the page where the User was upset. It was I took the link off for him. User:Di | talk
  • Rereading the message on my talk page I am now confused. I don't know if the person who is upset is from or Nothing else we can do if he doesn't identify himself User:Di | talk
    • thanks for your reply. Many pages are not resolving currently so I've stopped doing redirects/moves. I'll wait and see if the comes back. I'm off shopping now. It's 2.15pm Tuesday in Auckland, New Zealand and temp is around 10C so not too cold.User:Di | talk
Hey, I just repopulated, but I don't know if anything changed as the address seems to have stayed the same...? KristinaWeis
I noticed the bot thing yesterday too (see my note on ErrorLog), and I'm glad to see that you found the smart way to confirm it via contributions - I just thought I was going crazy. I added an auto-category tag so that any time the {{AddSiteTools}} template is added to one of these pages that didn't get scraped it will add this helpful template as well as Category:Repopulate Please so we can easily pinpoint these pages once it starts working again and Repopulate them. This is the template I had been leaving on a ton of pages yesterday anyway so it should help me at least in my sanity and if you want to add the template to pages you notice in Special:RecentChanges, etc. I would be more than happy to fix them as soon as I hear the bot is back up. KristinaWeis

Hi Eohippus, The AboutUsLogo ConsensusPoll has surpassed all it's GoThresholds and we will be turning on the DoneTimer as soon as all participants have been notified. This means that all participants now have the opportunity to check AboutUsLogo one more time, to make sure we haven't overlooked something. Please feel free to change the document and/or change your status, if need be. Best, Obed Suhail 22:29, 29 July 2007 (PDT)

I would just like to tell you about the WhoWeAre consensus poll. This is a unique opportunity for all community members to discuss and decide what AboutUs is and more importantly what role we, the community, plays.

The discussion is still in its initial stages and there are a handful of people involved in this discussion. But it's not enough. Every one of us has a stake in this process. We all need to air our views. Our opinions will make a difference. We cannot and must not let a handful of people define us. We must speak out and contribute because we are being defined and I for one would like to have a say in how I am being defined.

Please contribute to this really important project. Without you it cannot successfully create a good definition of who we are. Tanwir Shah

Not yet, I asked Jason to help me figure out what is needed, can I come to you for input? Best, MarkDilley

Canadian Language Schools

Thanks for the tip Eohippus. We need all the help we can get. This is a huge project. Tanwir Shah ps love the equine nick name.

Whats good'

Hey Eohippus just wanted to take a second and say hello! Bryan Daugherty

I notice that you are a very busy man when it comes to recent changes. You do good work. I hope you don't mind I tagged a few for you. I just wanted to say I am impressed with your dedication. --Master Baitor 18:16, 3 September 2007 (PDT)

Hi Eohippus, the pages have been repopulated. Hope you are doing good. Best, Asad

I used to use Wikipedia for well over a year, I'm aware of where they are, thanks though. I refuse to take vandal warnings from there, and in fact, I refuse to take anything from there unless it's really useful. I don't like their warning system. Three/four warnings and you're out? It should be one. Just one. You spam once, you get a warning and if you don't follow that warning, you're gone. We shouldn't be babysitting spammers and vandals. For anyone here to make up their own warnings, those warnings would end up as much nicer written and more personalised, less generic, etc. Nathan (talk) 10:35, 5 September 2007 (PDT)

ahh, beta bugs..

Thanks for pointing out the map bug with the new skin. Huge error, that one. -Vinh Nguyen

NewSkin Beta Preview

Hello Eohippus!

We've noticed your contributions and are glad to be on the AboutUs team with you! As an ActiveMember your energy and ideas determine our future direction. One way that ActiveMembers stay "in the loop" is to participate in the beta previews of large new changes to the site before they are generally released.

Today we're starting a limited beta preview of an earthy NewSkin intended to reflect the alive and growing AboutUs community. The NewSkin is designed to feel wholesome and connected with the real world. This choice was made to reassure the many folks who feel that the internet is a "scary place" where mean people hide behind fake identities and shout insults at each other. We hope that the NewSkin evokes our values in a way that helps visitors and members alike feel grounded in true community.

We'd love your help putting the NewSkin through its paces! To give it a whirl you'll need to be logged in. Once you are logged in, go to "my preferences" | "skin" and select "design". Don't forget to then click the "save" button! You can always go back to the current skin by selecting "aboutus" via the same steps.

Your feedback on the new look for aboutus will help ensure that it has a maximally positive impact when we roll it out. Thanks for being a valuable member of the community, we look forward to your feedback on the NewSkin page!

Warm Regards,
the DevelopmentTeam

Hi there, just wanted to say thanks for your note about D&B & sorry I didn't reply sooner. It's on my "list" of things to do... admittedly, it's pretty far down the list! Just writing this note should bump it up a bit higher! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks! Julia

Deleted Categories

Got your note.... When I ran that delete, it just removed the spam in the category description area. The category should remain if there are still sites using that category. I'll have to look and see what happened. DrewMyers | talk 20:25, 13 September 2007 (PDT)

Have a chat with DaughertyBw i think he has abit of arabic --Jackjones 09:33, 14 September 2007 (PDT)

Ill take a look and see what I can do.. --DaughertyBw 10:09, 14 September 2007 (PDT)
Is this what you are looking for - although it difficult since it is more of a literal translation.. and my arabic is not the best.. this is more of a literal translation... I will try and clean it up so it is more english friendly.. I am just a lil busy at the moment..
Hey I just was kicking an idea about translation with a few members of staff, and decided to seed a project for the future.. in doing so I came across a good translation of the page you were seeking at [1] perhaps that may aid you in your edits! good to finally meet you! hope to chat to you soon! if you are intereted please check out Translation and add any ideas, comments concerns you may have! --DaughertyBw 15:26, 14 September 2007 (PDT)

Edits to your page

YOU HAVE KNOWINGLY PUBLISHED FALSE AND/OR MISLEADING INFORMATION ? whats all that about ? --Jackjones 13:17, 23 September 2007 (PDT)

I'm not sure what to do with the article.
I moved a comment that someone else wrote, and added a link to a court case about someone with the same name as a person mentioned in a community review. I have no first-hand experience with the organization. --Eohippus 14:08, 23 September 2007 (PDT)

It seems to me that there is a need for a talk page here. Then maybe we can see what the whole story is about. What do you think?. --Jackjones 16:58, 23 September 2007 (PDT)

this user is having fun spaming user pages --Jackjones 09:44, 24 September 2007 (PDT)

I believe you nominated & to be featured? Just wanted to make sure you'd seen the comments on those pages. I look forward to working with you on these pages. TedErnst | talk 05:13, 9 October 2007 (PDT)

sorry for the delay

Hi, I moved [2] finally. I just deleted the page and remade it in the url bar and pasted in the information. This is a problem with our case based fix not working in namespaces other than the main one. Would be cool to chat with you sometime. Best, MarkDilley

AboutUsBot problem?

I noticed this as well and I just mentioned it to the dev guys when I got your confirmation that it wasn't just me :) Kristina | **talk** 15:29, 8 November 2007 (PST)

Hello again, I wanted to invite you to join me/us in the AboutUs IRC to talk about you becoming a sort of beta tester (If you don't see Ted or myself around at the time I would just ping one of us). This is of course because the community really trusts you here and sees that you're doing great work on the wiki! Best, Kristina | **talk** 15:12, 19 November 2007 (PST)

I have to take off now for class. Let me know if you have any questions and have a great night! Kristina | **talk** 16:32, 19 November 2007 (PST)

Sure thing - I didn't realize it had disappeared for you. We've had issues off and on with this, so let me know if it ever changes again or if it isn't good now. Best, Kristina 16:22, 15 January 2008 (PST)

We've had some wonkiness the last day or so and what you saw on was something I've seen before and clicking "refresh" on the AboutUs page solves it for some reason. Sorry about the weirdness, Kristina (contact me)
