Community Reviews

Hi Blake. It's great to have your views on Community Reviews and deleting the unhelpful info. Such "comments" do sometimes go beyond even negative reviews, taking even the form of defamatory or libelous comments. But I feel that deleting such reviews might be taking on too much of a policeman's role. I think we should do it only as a last resort, when we are sure that a person is deliberately spamming AboutUs or defaming somebody. What is helpful and what is not is also subjective most of the time. As a wiki, our aim should be to encourage people to make EfficientlyExpressedSuggestions, rather than deciding what is helpful and what is not. As sysops, I believe, we don't have the right to judge those who contribute to AboutUs (IncludeEveryone). So moving such reviews, except when they are explicitly defamatory, to the relevant section of community reviews seems to be alright, or may be we can ask them to support their point of view with facts - though even by doing so we sound too much like wikipedia, which is one of our explicit concerns not to become. Secondly, if somebody says "This is one of the most amazing....", "This is the best....." etc., we don't usually ask them to give evidence. Likewise we shouldn't ask them to prove it when it's a negative review, except, of course, in extreme cases.

Hey Blake,

Thanks for taking a swing at a lot of those Featured nominations today. I started to change your notes so that the signature was on the same line as the comment (see HockEdeals.com/FeatureDiscussion for an example of what I did), and then decided it probably didn't matter and so I stopped about halfway through. In my mind they look better in one line, especially given the general clutter of the page, but it's your call. Feel free to revert my changes or whatever. -- Tak

Hollywood Fine-Art Portal

Hello Blake, This is in regards to the portal deletion, I thank you for your message. Also I am not concerned with the deletion because when I built that it was to test the About Us Wiki. Wiki Tour meeting

Blake,

No problem about the mis-scheduled meeting. As it happens I'm up late trying to get a grant application done that's due tomorrow for the Oregon Literary Arts Fellowship, so I'm happy to be able to sleep in a bit (or just know I can pull an all-nighter). I'll let Scott know you can't make the meeting. We'll get together with Chris next week and map out the project then. In the meantime, I might take your thoughts and throw them on the tour page as a starting point as well. Have a great trip and we'll see you in a couple of weeks.

Vibra-Train.com Featured page nomination

Thanks for your comments. I have added some more lines of info in the two sections you mentioned. The owner of Vibra-Train wants it to remain simple and uncluttered with easy click-thru to the actual website so I haven't added a lot. There's nothing that extra pics will add as it's all on the site. Client reviews aren't available. I am a client so I could do one but again, it wouldn't necessarily reflect anyone else's experience or raise expectation of experience as Vibration Training is quite individual in it's (many) effects. I see you did some notes on the FeatureMePotentials. Thanks!

BTW: I moved those two you made comments back into the "New Candidates" section. My thought on renaming that section (I think it was "Awaiting Comments" before) is that by leaving the new candidates in there for a week or so (even if we've made comments) it gives them a little extra weight and helps them shine out a bit so that when community members come to the FeatureMePotentials page an only want to focus on a handful, that they're looking at those most in need of support and positive feedback.

I don't know if that makes sense, but I think it could help. Let me know what you think.
