AboutUsWeblog.org
Hi Ray, I don't really understand this wiki 'AboutUsWeblog.org' which lists all the AboutUs "Featured Sites", yet the outbound link on that page's thumbnail goes to some commercial domain/page with tons of advertising links and a search box on top that does not work: that site I absolutely do not understand, much less its relationship to what you are doing HERE... The only connection seems to be that YOU own both domains. And now you are setting up this weird network of interlinking... Quite frankly, I am happy to have my domain indexed here at AboutUs, but I don't want to be "sold down the river" (so to speak) to all kinds of other 'sister-sites' that are blatantly commercial...
Where exactly are you going with this? --Planetarian | please enlighten me! 10:05, 17 September 2006 (PDT)
PS: If this is the 'price to pay' for being an AboutUs Featured Site, then p l e a s e take me off the FS list! Thanks.
- No no no, I just registered the name so we can use it later on. GoDaddy.com, the registrar I used put up their standard parking page which I have nothing to do with. The plan is create a companion blog so that we can provide an RSS stream to people who want that.
Okidoki, then please allow me to take myself off the list on that wiki until such time that you got things set up properly. I really don't need the big SE's to index this 'parking page' in connection with my NON-commercial domain...! Agreed? --Planetarian | please give me the ok and i do the edit
- Yes, of course, we'll probably have it set up in a week or two --User:Ray King | talk 22:20, 18 September 2006 (PDT)
DONE - Thanks! AboutUsWeblog.org click on 'history' and see. --Planetarian: Over & Out :-) 22:35, 18 September 2006 (PDT)

Hi Ray.
We've been talking over at Wikipedia, and I've been directing some people here, and suggesting others do the same, especially when this seems to be the site they're really looking for, to write about their own website. (As you know, Wikipedia doesn't necessarily need or want an article on every domain on the internet; at AboutUs on the other hand, that's kind of the point.) Anyway, a question has come up over how the material contributed here is licenced. Are submissions here released under GFDL or some similar free licence? -GTBacchus 11:44, 20 September 2006 (PDT)
- Right now we're still looking into this and how it will affect the project longterm. As we move out of Beta we should have an answer. Thoughts welcome --User:Ray King | talk 23:17, 20 September 2006 (PDT)
- That should have been the first thing you decided! At the moment your contributors are adding material under... well, erm, under an unknown licence! It's not clear if anybody has a right to publish it, and it's very hard to change these things retrospectively. I suggest you come to a decision pronto! --Kingboyk 10:55, 27 October 2006 (PDT)
- You are right and I will prioritize --User:Ray King | talk 13:41, 27 October 2006 (PDT)
ICrSurvey.com
Ray, take a look at the title of the article at "ICrSurvey.com". I'm an employee of ICR (International Communications Research), and I've never seen our domain capitalized that way. If there's some way you can easily change it, I think that "ICRsurvey.com" would be more appropriate parlance. Thanks. If you need to contact me, call Greg at area code 484, then 840-4369. (We've talked before.)
- Fixed and if you see any others, here's how to fix them. --User:Ray King | talk 11:49, 25 September 2006 (PDT)
Google Map
Note, also, the Google map doesn't seem to display our proper location, about 6 miles west of downtown Media. Strange thing, when you CLICK the map address, it loads the approximately correct location. Why's that? -- Semi-anonymous.
- Yeah, I've noticed that on just a few also and I'm not sure how to fix it. Can you tell me the domain so we can take a closer look at it? --User:Ray King | talk 11:49, 25 September 2006 (PDT)
- It's ICRsurvey.com. -- Greg
- Got it, thanks --User:Ray King | talk 12:05, 25 September 2006 (PDT)
Vote and Review on Template:Domain_Page
Hi, I run Wikilou.com and I was hoping you could clue me in on how to get the vote and review sections on each page to work. If you could, please e-mail me at mijunkin(at)gmail.com and point me in the right direction. Thanks! --69.150.42.75 11:23, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

Just seeing if you are doing your job dude. How was the club last night?
re delete please
Request Delete of page for my domain PersonalEphemera.com. I don't know why the ABoutUs bot didn't recognize my robots.txt file but that's as may be. I took my contact information off the page for now but would like the whole page deleted (and some sort of prevention put in place to keep it fmor being reincluded) as soon as possible. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
- sure, it's been opted out - R
- thanks! And thanks for taking care of it so quickly

Content from Wikipedia
Hi, Ray. How's it going? I just had an idea about sharing some content between Wikipedia and AboutUs. What do you think of this edit, which uses content from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topix.net ? Is that legit, to import Wikipedia descriptions verbatim? -GTBacchus 20:42, 19 November 2006 (PST)
- That looks pretty innocuous because it's short and has an attribution, but I don't know the answer. Let me check and get back to you. --User:Ray King | talk 05:00, 20 November 2006 (PST)

editing/writing
Hi Ray. I am in interested in editing and writing for AboutUs. What is the compensation for the work?
- This is a volunteer effort and we'd be happy to have your help in any area you wish to flush out. Let me know if you are interested - Ray.
- I'm sorry. I thought I read that this is a for-profit business. Do you intend to make a profit? I don't mean to be difficult, and I'm happy to take this discussion to e-mail, but I'll have to think about the ethics of having a tiered worker system: those who profit materially and those who volunteer (and wind up serving management).
- I do hope you'll respond. I might still be interested, albeit in a scaled-back way. I could focus on the not-for-profit causes (mostly women's issues) that I care tremendously about. I'm not much of a techie, but I do have an M.A.+ in English and a lot of editing experience.
- I'd love to chat, let's set up a time next week (I'm traveling this week), please contact me by e-mail - ray [at] aboutus.org.
I Wikipedia Editors - Reluctant to Include Article On AboutUs.org
I recently began a Wikiarticle on AboutUs.org. Without checking the Google search results or Alexa rankings, the article was scheduled for speedy deletion, now just deletion possibly. I was at one point accuse of self promotion! AboutUs.org is a GREAT idea.. and is the answer to all of the frustration with the hidous DMOZ "open directory" that really isn't! Most catagory editors are either too busy, or have an interest possibly of not including other listings. I have always wanted a DMOZ alternative because they just will not reply to ANY requests for years. This is what Wiki is to the old stale encylclopedia's of the past.
The only problem is the Wiki editors are reluctant to list AboutUs.org, not seeing it as relevant as they would DMOZ.. etc..
If you are reading this- please visit Wikipedia and comment positively on AboutUs.org so it can remain an article.--162.83.180.170 12:47, 2 December 2006 (PST)

- Thanks for beginning the article and the support in general! It's probably not right for me to edit the article, so I won't and instead leave it to the public. User:Ray King | talk 18:29, 2 December 2006 (PST)
Patrol in French
Hi,
I am interested in Patrol for French language.
So, if you want my help, contact me.
- Philippe, that is great and we'd love to talk with you! We generally hang out in the #AboutUs IRC room, let's coordinate a time. --User:Ray King | talk 16:56, 5 December 2006 (PST)
Patrol in Brazil
Hi Ray
I'm from Brazil and just a newbie here. As i was helping in Wikipedia in the past i have some knowledge for here but please tell me everything that is needed here.
I want also to patrol Portuguese language reviews. Brazilians can be very good and very bad in the international communities as you know.
Thanks for your attention
Cheers Clonesoldier
- I'm in Brazil now! Are you any where near Sao Paulo? --User:Ray King | talk 16:56, 5 December 2006 (PST)
- You are in Brazil? Great! I thought no one from Brazil were here ^^
Nope, i'm in the extreme south, RS (Rio Grande do Sul)
And before my login (i forgot to login) i have made these reviews based on one stuff that i love: tokusatsu.
http://www.aboutus.org/Category:Tokusatsu
http://www.aboutus.org/Category:Kamen_Rider
What do you think of it? Are they good? Need some changes? And there are some "other language" sections here or i can write articles both in English and Portuguese?
- Those articles are great! Unlike Wikipedia.org, we have multiple languages together. Please feel free to write in Portugese or English and to add any section you wish. We don't have many Portugese edits yet, but will be happy to ask you when we do. Are you familiar with IRC? If so, we can talk on the #AboutUs channel sometime --User:Ray King | talk 20:32, 5 December 2006 (PST)
Thank you for liking it. Those texts can be better, but i need some time to add information up there ^^
As you said i will start double language in all articles. This is very fun for me. I only need to learn some Spanish until start some reviews in this language... :(
Yes,i'm familiar with IRC but unfortunately i have no time for it. With work and house jobs i have only some time to play in the internet or read something. But i will enter as soon as i can ^^
And for last, i will be very happy to help here.
Cheers Clonesoldier
- We're very happy to have your help, please also feel free to interact with any of the sysops if you have questions or comments. Thanks! - Ray.
Thank you Ray. I will let a word for each one here from time to time. Plus,i like to learn and exchange ideas with other people. ^^

My website is www.butterbaby.com, but it is listed as www.ButterBaby.com. How do I change the capital B? Thx.

listingsinbangalore page
Please delete listingsin bangalore page for kalavathi foundation under art/music chapter. the foundation is closesd.
- Please tell me what page you are referring to and what change you would like --User:Ray King | talk 23:01, 27 December 2006 (PST)
- I have been reverting your change because you keep deleting someone else's section of this page as you post your note. Please stop doing that. Also, the link you refer to:
- Is not on an AboutUs page, so I don't know what to do with it? User:Ray King | talk 08:36, 5 January 2007 (PST)
- Again, please stop deleting other people's comments. If there is a page on the AboutUs site you'd like modified in some way, leave that page's link so I know what you are talking about. It sounds like you might be referring to something outside the AboutUs site. If so, I can't help with that. User:Ray King | talk 09:13, 8 January 2007 (PST)
- Hi Ray king. now I got where to do editting. I think I dint delete someone else's page now.
By the way, as I have seen the advertisement of listingsinbangalore.com in your site aboutus.org, so can you please tell me whom to contact for deleting a page from that site.
The link is http://listingsin.com/bangalore/category/community/all/community-bangalore.aspx
Thanks.
- The link you have shown is for a page outside the AboutUs site. I can only help with pages that are inside the AboutUs site. User:Ray King | talk 08:32, 10 January 2007 (PST)
But still as the page link of listingsinbangalore.com is there in AboutUs.org website, so you people might be knowing someone whom should we contact for deleting a page from that site. Please do let us know that.
- I opted out this page ListingsInBangalore.com is that right? User:Ray King | talk 10:05, 12 January 2007 (PST)
But i can see that the ad is there in your site. I want to delete a page rfrom there. Not the whole page only one tab under that.
- Hey if you want to contact the owner, check out here and it will give you the owners contact information. --Simon | talk 23:25, 13 January 2007 (PST)

Hi Simon, I have sent a mail to jorgen skold. But he is not replying for a long time. Can you please help us by contacting him regarding this...please do us a favour. Its very urgent.
Hi simon, please let me know whether yo ucan help me in the above case...I am really puzzled.
possible idea for sysop/admin
Ray, would the programmers be able to look into possibly a check box system for the recent change patrols? for example.. when there are say, 20 edits to a page, only the most recent really needs a patrol (because patrolling the others defeats the purpose, more changes may happen).. to clear the lsit easier.. a check box system to 'mark all checked as patroled' may be a nice time saver. Also.. with rollbacks.. perhaps when clicking 'rollback', a history type list can come up, and you choose which previous edit to rollback to rather than only the last (again, rollbacks dont always work if the edit previous was also spam or vandalism, etc..) I also suggested to Mark Dilley a program we can downlaod (simular to what wikipedia uses).. that lets you patrol, and has 'macro's. which are all the templates, summary's, etc.. in a neu, jsut click, and it places the appropriate edit reason ro whatever instead of having to manually type it in (or look up which one you use in a dozen open browser windows). Of course, the program would need updates as new templates and namespaces are created, but updating it once it's initially created is the easy part Alan 11:37, 28 December 2006 (PST)
- Yes, we're working on a way to patrol groups of related edits and you're right, this would be a huge timesaver. Good suggestion on Rollback also, but that's not on the list currently. I do hate it when we roll back to a previously spammed page. Right now we just look at history and identify the last known good version, call that up and then hit save which works pretty well. I'll talk to Mark about the last. Thanks for the input! User:Ray King | talk 11:45, 28 December 2006 (PST)

optouts reply
Hey Ray,
- Theoptouts I did were on the shortpages.. all 0k or 1k.. with nothing to revert back to. pages with no site resolving I basically deleted. I figured they were all old, and opting back in is simple enough. There were also some nonsense pages people made playing around, and will never go back to (weren't website pages..just one word pages with 'hi' on it or something silly like that.
- it's amazing how clearing out some nonsense pages can speed up the site a bit too(less pages to search through, even if they are 0k pages.. less hits on the database)
- While we're on it, i'd love to clean up the catagories somehow.. not sure where to even start there Alan 15:59, 31 December 2006 (PST)
