Needless to say, my two 500GB hard drives are now installed, and combined with the 300GB boot drive I already have, I now have 1.3 TB of raw active storage in my main system. I’ve already re-done my backup scheme to handle this and got a good back up of it last night (to even more storage if you were wondering). It took a little over 7 hours to back it all up. Not bad and much faster than tape.
Then it was installing them, formatting them in Windows, assigning drive letters, copying your data back onto them, and calling it a day.
If you look real close, you’ll notice that I still have one drive bay left at the very top of the drive rack where the three drives are. I haven’t decided if I’ll fill it with anything (there’s not much airflow there to keep it cool), and if I do, what to put in there (either another 500GB drive or a 750GB drive or larger when I get around to it).
