Welcome to AboutUs. I've noticed your edits to OttawaSuperEx.com (I've been meaning to check that page). The map tool isn't working with the site so I'll tinker with it for a while. Hi, Eohippus. Thanks for the note about the Marin County category- we generally discourage people linking to sites from the category page. It's preferred to have a description of what that category means or is (if it's not obvious), but we discourage links because they're all shown in the main box of the category page. In addition, a lot of people spam our category pages and try to advertise themselves, so that's why we avoid links altogether. Let me know if you have any more comments or questions about this. Categories

Hello Eohippus- as far as the categories you mentioned are concerned, the reason Category:Wallpaper is blue and the other two aren't is simply because there is a "related categories" section within that category. The other two categories do actually exist and could still potentially be useful categories, regardless of if there is user generated text or related categories added in to that page. Some categories do benefit from a bit of user generated text to explain the idea or history of that particular category. However, in the wallpaper case, it's best not to add anything, as it's self explanatory. To address your last question of merging, it would be best to leave "desktop wallpaper" separate from the other two, as it is a separate concept (your house versus computers). However, the singular and plural issue of "wallpaper" and "wallpapers" is something that we have discussed and plan to do something about in the future. Does that clear things up a bit? I agree, this is something that we discussed since the "case-space-duplicates" issue was dealt with a month or so ago, but as far as I know no solution has been reached and we do not have a work-around. I will bring it up to them if they didn't already notice your note via patrolling Special:RecentChanges. This is something I have had problems with when there is user John and john for example and it won't let me get to one of the pages, etc. But getting rid of and blocking duplicates was a nice thing overall as we had a few thousand pages that were the same save a capital letter, etc. We are going through an upgrade to a newer version of MediaWiki and because of this we have been making preparations such as the case-space thing and downsizing categories and related domains in general, so likely this is something that will be fixed after this upgrade. If you want to go straight to the source, here are links to a few of our dev guys... User:Stephen Judkins, User:Jason Parmer, Brandon CS Sanders. Hmm, I just tried jumping into the AboutUs IRC to ask around but no one seems to be alive and kicking right now.

Geographic subdomains

Hi! I think it is in the pipes, but I also think it would get more traction if you went ahead and suggested a project for this idea. I think it is easy to do, we are just getting it together. Well, doesn't look like a one click option is available for development yet, but check out DevelopmentTeamPriorities and either ask to elevate a project or add a suggested one on this. AboutUsLogo and WhoWeAre

Oh thanks! That makes a lot of sense and something I have been doing, I just didn't realize I was. I've been simplifying the names on some of the Help pages and I've changed the links in the other places I knew they were, but I hadn't even thought to use the "what links here" feature. Hi Eohippus, Sorry about the confusion. I saw the second domain box with a thumbnail for www.spasuite.com instead of www.thespasuite.com and thought it was someone from spasuite.com trying to hijack the page. This is a common tactic and I mistakenly did not look into the page as closely as I should have. I have changed the site back to your much more complete, thorough version and removed the extra domain box. Thanks for the great work and sorry for my mistake.

re: Category:Adult Content

Is there a project page for this effort? I'm not clear on the value-add to the wiki. I know there is a project for implimenting the AdultContentPolicy and want to make sure this is one and the same with that, rather than an additional effort potentially working at cross-purposes. peace, TedErnst

Hi Eohippus
The above comment and similar is being left on many of our User pages. Someone quite upset about a Related Domains link. I've taken out the Related Domains link AutomobilSport.com that he doesn't want BUT he's deleted the content of the other page in an attempt to take it off his Related Domains (he must really dislike that link. I'm smiling here!) AutomobilSport.com and it wont resolve on my computer (maybe a redirect) so I can't restore the page.. so what now? Maybe when the page will resolve I or you can restore it.

I noticed the bot thing yesterday too (see my note on ErrorLog), and I'm glad to see that you found the smart way to confirm it via contributions - I just thought I was going crazy. I added an auto-category tag so that any time the {{AddSiteTools}} template is added to one of these pages that didn't get scraped it will add this helpful template as well as Category:Repopulate Please so we can easily pinpoint these pages once it starts working again and Repopulate them. This is the template I had been leaving on a ton of pages yesterday anyway so it should help me at least in my sanity and if you want to add the template to pages you notice in Special:RecentChanges, etc. I would be more than happy to fix them as soon as I hear the bot is back up.
