New question
I see how to edit existing pages, but how does one go about changing the capitalization of existing domain names? (I.e., FirstNePhi.com should be Firstnephi.com, and WitzLaw.com should be Witzlaw.com). It looked like I could change anything BUT that. Thanks much, Sandy Rabinowitz (owner of witzlaw.com and firstnephi.com), 15-Dec-2006.
- There are two ways, one described in FixName and the other: You have to create an account first. Once logged in, you will see a move tab next to the edit and history tabs at the top of the page. You can use that to rename the page. Depending on the settings here, you may have to wait a few days after creating the account before you can move pages. -anon 15:39, 28 December 2006 (PST)

Can you reinstate eBay.co.uk, please?. Today both my computers get ebay.com from your home page with everything in USD.
- You will need to contact that server directly, AboutUs would be good to discuss what happened. Best, MarkDilley
Lock Pages ?
Why isnt there a way to "LOCK" pages by the company/domain owner?
This could easily turn into a way to defame a company by a competitor. Some of us stay busy and/or may be away from a computer for extended periods of time and unable to be notified of changes. If we dont know changes were made how are we supposed to fix it? Yes, we could fix it when we are made aware but by then the damage could allready be done. This is a cool unique way of getting advertiseing but it has too many possibilities for abuse by being a wiki.
- There is a community and staff that patrol RecentChanges for malicious content on a regular basis. We are looking into a domain holder contributed section though.
Violating my Creative Commons License
"Yes, we are a for profit company, but we are not a fly by night scam. We strongly believe that AboutUs will be a healthy part of the new web culture. It is a place for people to research topics of personal and professional interest, to know what others think about a given website and to simply wander the links and discover new areas of the web they are not familiar with. We warmly welcome those who wish to join us in creating such a site."

FreeDonation.com appears to be a scam.
As a private citizen, I've been investigating FreeDonation.com, which is promoted on your website. None of the causes that it purports to support have said that they are currently receiving anything through this web-site, and the founders have been unresponsive to my queries. Do you have current info about this site. I'd really appreciate your feedback.
Thanks,
Rochelle L.
- Hello Rochelle, we don't have information on the site, just what is here. If you would like to talk about how to use AboutUs as a resource for your work, please contact me. MarkDilley
Edit Restriction

Changing a page's name
Hi there! We just started a website http://luckyhonu.com and someone entered the page here as LuckyHoNu.com making it look like Ho Nu were 2 separate words. The site is named after the hawaiian turtle "honu." Is there anyway to change the site location so that it doesn't capitalize that N? Thanks for your time!
- -Margaret
- Hi Margaret, it is easy to FixName - either place the tag on the page or log in and move the page yourself ;-) - oh heck I might just do it now. Best, MarkDilley
MarkDilley, THANKYOU! *wiki hug!* -Margaret

On the header for WolfsParadiseIrc.com it is spelled wrong. It's like this: WolfsParadSeIrc.com.
It should be WolfsParadiseIrc.com.

- Hi Todd, we are an open edit wiki and while we will blank a page of it's history at a domain holder's request, we won't prevent users from adding information to our site. Let me know if you have any more thoughts or questions. Best, MarkDilley
Mark, the issue here is that none of us put this information up in the first place. You did! There are many opportunities out there to promote our websites, but they are pro-active and nor re-active. You are making huge assumptions about how we want our websites promoted. You really have missed the point of a Wiki here!
- Not sure what you mean about missing the point of a wiki. Anyone, on their own blog, can write a review of your website, yes? Do you agree with that? You could ask them to take it down, but would you really excect them to do so? AboutUs is like that, except much more open. You're free to contribute to the article about your domain as well. You can actually talk with those writing the review. We believe this is a very powerful model for community-created content. TedErnst
Re: Captiveight.com and Egostroker.com
I am not sure where you have gotten your information about these web addresses. They are owned by DV Illusions only (www.Dvillusions.com). Also, the picture that is shown for these web addresses is an OLD web site. If possible please make corrections. If you need further information, please contact DV Illusions.
- The information came from our bot and it is really easy to UpdateThumbnail. This is a wiki - so feel free to add the correct informations. Best, MarkDilley
Stolen Content
Hello , It has been brought to my attention that you are listing a site that contains a great deal of stolen text content from my site: Beauty-And-The-Bath.com
You are featuring a site doing business as HairStyleBlog.net For just one example, I will ask you to view this sites page at: [1] and then my original content at: [2]
As we have just started to examine this site, I have found over twenty of my articles a vast amount of hairstyle pictures stolen and used. From what we have seen, the entire contents of this site has been stolen and the various site owners are being contacted.
I will ask you to remove this site and it's posts from your site, I do not wish to have to serve a Cease/Order
Thank you for your assistance,
- T.Mayer

Correct information
While studying my statistics (www.studiolumi.com), I found this page (aboutus.org). I don't know where you have gathered the information, maybe you have generated it yourself. Here is my address: PL 40, 00711 Helsinki, FINLAND. The official name of the company is Tmi Studio LUMI. When contacting people, I use the name Studio LUMI. I hope that you change the information into a right one.
Yours Sincerely
Reino Laukkanen
- I made the changes for you. If there are other changes, you can make them yourself, as this is an open edit site, or you can contact us again. Drew
take out my site
how can I take out my website from aboutus.org?
- We will clear out the computer generated content easily. As far as to be completely out, we feel that we are like any other source of information, like a weblog or a search engine we can have information about websites here.
Who Gave you permission to put my website on About Us
I am the owner of UltimateFleshlight.com
Who gave you permission to post details and such about my website?
I don't mind extra publicity, but you have added wording that does not exist in my pages and could effect contractual arrangements with the Fleshlight """ Official """ website and company.
Respond ASAP - this is a legal matter!
- looking into it now, we consider what is on that wiki page to be fair use, at one level we are a domain directory. MarkDilley
Question
do you think it's right for child to be models
- Personally no, but AboutUs.org has not discussed it. MarkDilley
Other subdomains not using www in front. still end up with www.
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if it's possible to add domains without the www beeing autogeneration in front. ie: one of the sites is Rimbeyrock.Canadianway.com, but if you click on the link it always sends me to www.Chat.CanadianWay.com
I haven't found yet how to fix this. In the "move"box it states teh link as right but it still adds www.
Actually I have several domains like that.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions and or fixes.
Thanking you in advance...
--PeaceKeeper 22:19, 2 March 2007 (PST)
p.s. for the time beeing I've added the www.
- Hi, thanks for the questions. Actually we switched from non www. to www. as the default for the page name link. (it has always been that way for the thumbnail link). We did this because many folks said they were wanting the www. ;-) What we are looking into is trying to find the way that you want to be referenced and then having the link do that. I think we are a little ways off on that though. Let me know your thoughts. Best, MarkDilley
Status of GLS3Csystems
GLS has been my installer and ISP for some years. My "Home" has, until just recently, remained gls3c.com. This website has disappeared from my screen and I cannot access it via Internet Explorer. The new owner of the service is IELEMENT, to whom I've reported this. What do you know of this website, originally set up by George and Lisa Baker? Appreciate any info. J. Burton
- Hello J. Burton, I can not reach the site as well. Please think about documenting the situation on the wiki page Gls3c.com. Let me know if I can help in any way. Best, MarkDilley
Cazania
Hi :-) Thank you for the great thumbnail on Cazania ! Please mend the link in the "go directly to site" moiety ! TIA Keep up the good work! Dan - irismeister 17:49, 12 March 2007 (PDT)

As bad as Patriot Act 13!
This entirely unnecessary further assault on the Netizens of the world is inexcusable on several basic human grounds: 1: It was/is a blatant commercial proposition. To flog ads to unsuspecting/incompetent advertisers. http://portland.bizjournals.com/portland/stories/2006/11/13/story2.html?b=1163394000^1374690
2: It has no valuable socially redeeming features at all. ALL of this stolen information is readily available from more legitimate/reliable(?) sources. As an honest venture, permission would be sought - not stolen in the night........
3: A VERY short perusal of comments here will show how THINKING Site owners object to this sort of blatant piracy for commercial gain in the guise of offering some public value. This is an insane venture similar to Youtube and will unfortunately no doubt make a lot of money for the promoters. (Sigh)
4: ANY competitor of a legitimate business can be quite viciously assaulted in this weird world of sick-WIKIS and not even know it has happened.
5: I only found out about this underhanded excretion after receiving phone calls on my thought-to-be well-hidden private phone. The perpetrators under threat revealed this thing as the source.
Is aboutus.org a good thing? YES for spammers, for blackhats, for the evil types that infest the Net.
- I respectfully disagree. There are many commercial sites which use information from either whois or that is fair use which do so in a similar manner to us. There is no "stealing" going on. We are wiki enthusiasts, we see and believe in the positive potential. Yes, there is the potential for mis-use, but that exists just as well with blogs, forums and other sites which allow public participation. If you would like your phone number removed, unlike other sites, we would be happy to do so, just tell us what page it's on. -- Ray
(I DON'T CARE) So, is that fair Ray?
- Whois sites, search engines, and other community sites all have the potential for abuse, but on the whole are good for the Internet. We are in that space and being a wiki are both more vulnerable, but also quicker to self heal. I don't see how this is not fair. -- Ray
whois googleable?
Paraphrasing a concern raised by someone I was talking with about AboutUs: "Is whois information generally googleable? If not, then AboutUs is taking information that's findable if you're looking for it only and turning it into information that can be stumbled upon. Is this a good thing?" TedErnst
- That's a good question, we tried some and it's hit or miss. For example, Google search "whois 2145 Hamilton Avenue" and you will see that this brings you to a whois record for GMoney.com from DNSStuff.com. Ray
Take OFF my PERSONAL INFO!
Hey - get my address, name, email, domains, etc, OUTA HERE! You have NO RIGHT to republish WHOIS info that is supposed to be protected. I want it off your site... this is a legal issue.

You are just as bad and scummy as your average WHOIS scraping bottom feeders.
- I'm sorry you feel that way, I've Opted the page out -- Ray
Please remove my personal info
I've just learned about your website and was disturbed that my real name, home address and telephone number were publicly available on this website for my domain VedaDesigns.net . Because this information hasn't been on my domain registration for more than a year...I'm assuming you harvested this info some time ago.
Please remove all personal information as soon as possible or let me know how I can remove this on my own. Also, do you have an opt out page or some way of preventing this type of thing from happening again? Archives.org allows you to opt out and place a robots.txt file on your server to prevent future archiving. Is there something similar available here?
Thanks...
Update: I was able to edit the current version by creating an account...but I would be grateful if the site owners could delete the older versions (at least my real name, address & telephone number).
- I see your edits, and I scrubbed the history off the page also so it can't be seen in the revision history. - Ray
Thanks Ray...much appreciated. To everyone else who is concerned about what info is displayed....you can find the opt-out/robots.txt info here: User:AboutUsBot
Is there any protection for site owners?
I own a freebies and shopping site called Free Stuff Hot Deals. Last November several moderators elected to leave my site and make their own. Unfortunately these women left on very bad terms and since their departure they have been slandering and posting trash about my site every where that they can. I just deleted 10 derogatory and ridicules posts made by these individuals from my page on this site. I see from other posters comments on this page that you are able to ban ips from posting on this site. I can supply you with a few of their ips however this wont protect me from them posting via proxy servers or from dial up accounts.
I don't mind having my websites listed here but I really think that you need to afford some sort of protection against this sort of slanderous posting. My situation is certainly not unique.
Thanks for your time,
Shawn Martin FreeStuffHotDeals.com [3]
- Hi Shawn. I'm not sure I'm following your train of thought. The posts you deleted don't seem to be slanderous to me, but I'm not a lawyer. It seems to me those people have just as much right to post on that page as you do. In fact, it seems to be that those posts ought to be restored. How 'bout having a dialog on the page? The fact that you're here with your name and they're here as anon says a lot, I'd say. People posting as anon don't have much credibility. In fact, I'd bet you'll gain by using your name and being reasonable, which will show that these people are just angry. I think it's important that they be able to speak, even from anger, and that you be able to respond. What do you say? TedErnst
Ted,
You have got to be kidding? You have no idea how much crap that I've put up with from these women. As far as contacting me anybody can contact me via my site. There is a clearly marked contact the admin button on every page.
You see the garbage that I deleted. Go to my forums and see if any of that is true. What you'll find is a thriving and very happy community of members.
So what you're saying to me is that if I allow my site(s) to be listed on this that I have to monitor what is being posted and that these people are free to come here any time that they want and rip my hard work to pieces?
Shawn
- What I'm saying is there's a chance here for public dialog that isn't possible if they simply email you. For whatever reason, these people feel the need to speak out publicly. They could choose to set up their own blog for that purpose and not only could they prevent you from commenting there at all, you'd have no possibility to 'opt out.' Here, you similarly can't opt out. This is a community resource and the community owns the page. The benefit is that we, as a community, can edit out the slander and keep the comments constructive. I think many, if not all, of those comments you removed need to be put back, and I'd encourage you to make s statement of some kind about them on that page. TedErnst
Ted
Not a chance.
I don't have time to monitor your website and play games with those idiots. Any response to their garbage is simply egging then on.
- That's up to you, Shawn. I'm almost certain your removal of the feedback will be reverted. Remember, this is a community-owned resource. That page doesn't belong to you. I can certainly appreciate your being too busy to monitor what people are saying about you on the web. It's a big web out there! peace, TedErnst
- Hey Shawn, I'm sorry that some bad feedback has been left about your site here, unfortently you choose to more than just delete them all you also decided to make up your own review. If you had valid complaints I would of been more then willing to hear them. The internet allows for free speech, and they could of made those statements on any blog or anything like that as Ted stated above. I have reverted your comments and deleted a few reviews that I thought we're being quite rude, but in general I left the rest as they were as they did not seem to be slander. --Simon Koldyk 21:31, 23 March 2007 (PDT)
- Just a note on "monitoring": you can set up e-mail alerts to watch for changes on pages, eliminating the need to "monitor" the site - Ray
