User talk:NSM Rousseau
Welcome to AboutUs. Looks like you are getting the hang of the place! Let me know if you have any questions. Best, MarkDilley
Can I ask your reasons for twice vandalising the page for TimeLord.co.uk? This is one of the pages I monitor, and the paragraph you changed on both occasions referred to the "site's entire content" which the article states went onto more than one site. The link to the Internet Archive Wayback Machine at the foot of the page verifies that the material was more than that currently housed on any one of the Related Domains listed on the page. I guess you may have a vested interest in promoting your own site, but that should not happen at the expense of misrepresenting other entries in the AboutUs wiki. --Faye Dunaway's teeth 17:48, 6 February 2007 (PST)
Hello
I'll not bore you as to the history of this matter, however the only issue is the description of the other sites as 'satellite sites'. This implies that the WL site is a small body orbiting the old Timelord site. Call it personal pride but the WL site has a large volume of material on it which took a great deal of work (ie - the films and audios).
I hope that clears the matter up.
thank you for your time.
As I heard nothing back, I've corrected the inaccuracy. This correction can, in no way, be described as vandalism; rather it is maintaining an accurate historical record.
Hello, I think that if you are the domain holder - we can move any insertion of other information to a Community Review section down the page... that way it will be easier to seperate and tell that there is a disputer rather than the person placing info in the text of the page. Best, MarkDilley
- NSM Rousseau, you are not the domain holder for Timelord (I presume), but for the site you are promoting (westlakefilms). The matter of pride you talk of above is surely colouring your reading of the text. The page talks of a forum that rehouses content (including if memory serves me rightly, the vast Random Fiction archive), and that isn't a site belonging to the owner's of the content. Some of the content you produced (I presume) is also on your current site, and that is referenced in the related domains. All seems fair enough.
- I'd also add that that the site described in the history section no longer exists - it ceased a year or so ago. Presumably it was written up to explain the site that was associated with the domain, but that section could as easily be deleted and the page left to describe the site that currently resides there. A little less pride and a little more prespective is maybe needed here! :) If the dispute continues, I'd suggest simply deleting the history section, as the disagreement has no relation to the site that is currently at the domain name. --Faye Dunaway's teeth 06:13, 27 March 2007 (PDT)
I am not attempting promote my own site by changing three words which do not contain a reference to my own site. In addition, we ARE the owners of the material on the westlake site whereas the forum with the fiction on it is just that - a forum. As I said in a chat coversation with Mark Dilley, I'd rather have my own sites entry removed from the entry entirely (and potentially the aboutus database.)
- Yeah, its worth pointing out that the article already says that! "At this stage, groups within the community wished to host their own material separately", that seems to be referring to you, and then it says more generally "and the site's entire content gradually began to be rehoused onto separate satellite sites", which includes the other sites. Timelord then closed (ie: ceased to exist) and the successor sites continued independently in their own right. The domain name (Timelord) was re-employed into the site that's there now which bears no relation to what went before.
- A glance at the Internet Archive Wayback Machine link at the bottom of the article's page shows that there was a heck of a lot more than just the audios and videos on that old site! It even had some of my comic fiction in its very early days. And while it was chiefly a fiction site, the old site's scale and diversity is much missed, really; but as I said above, it no longer exists. The history section might relate to the domain name, but it is irrelevant if these pages are supposed to be about the current sites at those domain names. --Faye Dunaway's teeth 09:22, 27 March 2007 (PDT)
OK, I'll leave it be. We all miss the old Timelord site and wish that it could have remained as it was but too much had been said by too many people in a short space of time to prevent history playing out as it has. I tried to reconcile it but in the end no one seemed interested, so things are now as they are.
But, as you say, the old TL site was more than just films. It was a fantastic mix of fiction, media, wallpapers etc. It is still missed (even at this third anniversary of the split) - but what we've all inherited instead is the present and we've got to make the best of it. Although, for some time, I lived in hope of reestablishing some kind of relationship.
So, I'll say no more on this and wish you well.
I've removed the Westlake entry as a request for the entries removal from the database has been submitted. Its nothing personal. Please consider getting in touch :)

A History section
I think a section like this would be fair. Don't you? MarkDilley
Yes, its fair.
I have added WL to the entry so that both the 'satellite sites' are represented, which is also fair :-)
- Hi, just wanted to check in. It looks to me that things are working out. What do you think? Best, MarkDilley
The page seems to be blank at the moment. I'll check back soon and see if its returned :)
Thanks.

WhoWeAre
Hi,
I would just like to tell you about the WhoWeAre consensus poll. This is a unique opportunity for all community members to discuss and decide what AboutUs is and more importantly what role we, the community, plays.
The discussion is still in its initial stages and there are a handful of people involved in this discussion. But it's not enough. Every one of us has a stake in this process. We all need to air our views. Our opinions will make a difference. We cannot and must not let a handful of people define us. We must speak out and contribute because we are being defined and I for one would like to have a say in how I am being defined.
Please contribute to this really important project. Without you it cannot successfully create a good definition of who we are. Tanwir Shah

NewSkin Beta Preview
Hello Andrew!
We've noticed your contributions and are glad to be on the AboutUs team with you! As an ActiveMember your energy and ideas determine our future direction. One way that ActiveMembers stay "in the loop" is to participate in the beta previews of large new changes to the site before they are generally released.
Today we're starting a limited beta preview of an earthy NewSkin intended to reflect the alive and growing AboutUs community. The NewSkin is designed to feel wholesome and connected with the real world. This choice was made to reassure the many folks who feel that the internet is a "scary place" where mean people hide behind fake identities and shout insults at each other. We hope that the NewSkin evokes our values in a way that helps visitors and members alike feel grounded in true community.
We'd love your help putting the NewSkin through its paces! To give it a whirl you'll need to be logged in. Once you are logged in, go to "my preferences" | "skin" and select "design". Don't forget to then click the "save" button! You can always go back to the current skin by selecting "aboutus" via the same steps.
Your feedback on the new look for aboutus will help ensure that it has a maximally positive impact when we roll it out. Thanks for being a valuable member of the community, we look forward to your feedback on the NewSkin page!
Warm Regards,
the DevelopmentTeam
