Wiki Pages Nominated to be Featured
This page is for the community to discuss potential featured wiki pages. Pages can be pretty much anything in the AboutUs universe -- articles about domains, people, portals, help topics. For more information on how to Nominated a page to be featured, see FeatureMeNominated.
Notes from the community should be constructive with the ultimate goal of not necessarily creating a site that is going to be Featured, but the goal of creating a dynamite page with great value to the community.

- Here are some things you can add to this page that i find missing. Contact info to get in touch with you. A bit about the studio itself as well in its own section, about what you do, how you work, your design approaches etc. You can also add here any awards that you have won or any tradeshows/beurs you have participated in. Just some thoughts. I moved the logo all the way up to give this page an identity of your studio. --Sa'ad talk•email•chat 04:21, 14 March 2008 (PDT)

- Emailed the webmaster today to see if there is still interest in working on this page. TedErnst | talk 21:13, 17 September 2007 (PDT)
- I have to agree this is a very great wiki page! I still think that it could outline a few more areas, however, as it stands I do believe it is a contender for a coming featured page. I will try and drop a line or 2 to your user page or email to see what we can do to take it over the top! Bryan Daugherty
- This article might be a contender for featured, but as it stands it is just too wordy, not attractive enough, and does not lure the reader into wanting to read it. More pictures, and less words will make it so much better. Remember, we are creating a teaser to lure readers to click on links that take us to the original page. We are not duplicating the original page. It is this factor that can create a good featured, when the reader wants to read the page, and then wants to click on the links to find out more. - Shameless begging for donations... well, nothing wrong with asking for donations, but I don't think it should be on your AboutUs page... do you think I would even consider visiting your site with that in mind? Thumbs down on this one. WillyP | talk 17:13, 18 December 2007 (PST)
- I'm not quite understanding the section headings. Yes, I just make the dates into 3rd-level headings because that seems to make sense, but the "description" heading doesn't make sense to me. Are these "updates"? Maybe make that clear somehow? TedErnst (talk) 19:02, 18 December 2007 (PST)
- Add a bit more to the wiki page common things like address, logo, what you are about, say a but more about your community. For ideas see the pages that have already been featured. --Sa'ad : msg me : email : 05:21, 13 February 2008 (PST)

AskLingo.com featured discussion
- Edit/Add to this Discussion
- Nomination processed on 26 Sept. 2007 (after a nomination from a few weeks ago that had slipped through the cracks).
- Hi Mustafasa - this WikiPage is off to a great start! My few comments would be to a) break free from our original structure, go ahead and make the title what it is and get rid of title! :-) (and description). Also, in a few places you have Asklingo and it seems that the site is AskLingo, just a minor thing really. One thing about your site, it seems, is that you are multilingual! Yea! I would go ahead and list that as text and maybe have direct links from each flag to the language on your site for ease of visitors to this page. Fabulous start! Let me know if I can help in any way. Best, MarkDilley
- Wow, amazing, especially the language factor! I thing this is a strong potential but could use just a few finishing touches. Perhaps we could work together in polishing this up and preping it to be a featured page. For starters, lets break out of the common mold of section headers.. I will be contact you to share a fw more ideas. --Bryan 16:53, 9 October 2007 (PDT)
- A contact or support section is missing. I had a brief visit to your site. Liked what i saw. You know you can add media right into the wikipage? So if you want to setup an example of how a word may be pronounced, just upload the .mp3 file for it and write a bit about it. --Sa'ad : msg me : email : 05:16, 13 February 2008 (PST)

- Just some small tweaks: You can move the logo all the way up. Give address its own heading. Any external links into WikiLinks. If you make something a wikilink and nothing exists for it, perhaps elaborate on it a bit. --Sa'ad : msg me : email : 04:50, 13 February 2008 (PST)

- Wow, this makes solitaire look fun to me! :) Very nice page. The first thought I had when looking would be that it would be cool to add some articles relating to solitaire strategy (probably for my own benefit though since I am not very good.) But this probably wouldnt help much to become featured. I am not sure what could be added to make this much better. good job! --DaughertyBw 20:53, 5 October 2007 (PDT)
- Nice page. You could add small descriptions with thumbnails of all the games that are part of this package. You have won some awards, those can be added to this wikipage as well. Your partner sites can be added into the Related Domains or even in a separate heading. --Sa'ad : msg me : email : 04:14, 13 February 2008 (PST)

ChristChurchWarren.org featured discussion
- Edit/Add to this Discussion
- First nominated on 18:13, 20 June 2007 (PDT)
- Awesome WikiPage. I really like the inclusion of the upcoming events and service schedule. The description seems a little light and could maybe use a little bit more, but there's some really great info here, so it's a pretty strong featured candidate. One other thought I had to maybe spice the page up is that we'd love to see some "community reviews" or "testimonials" here; perhaps if members of the congregation would like to come to AboutUs and tell their experiences both with the church and the rector, that could make this a pretty special WikiPage. -- TakKendrick | Talk
- I agree with Tak, the events schedule is a good idea. I might be neat to have pictures from the more significant or annual events, maybe more information about how to participate, the history of the event. Kasey 10:26, 19 September 2007 (PDT)
- This page is definately off to a great strat, a little more info could be used, but I am sure with a little editing this could be one nice featured page... I cannot wait to see some more constructive edits - Ill keep checking back to see what ideas you come up with! --DaughertyBw 12:09, 19 September 2007 (PDT)

Classic-Apartments.com featured discussion
- Edit/Add to this Discussion
- Nominated on 00:20, 1 January 2008 (PST)
- This page seems to be coming along nicely. Good use of gallery and images. Not sure however, why thumbnail has been removed. Asad | *~talk~* 00:20, 1 January 2008 (PST)
- I think all of those external links should be internal instead. Maybe with a statement about their connection to this website? Competitor? Partner? Etc. TedErnst (talk) 19:14, 4 January 2008 (PST)
- I just added the {{RealEstateMember}} badge to the page. Click on it to see the new Real Estate Area of AboutUs. The badge itself adds you to that area and helps others know what you're up to. And I think the badge looks better when it's inside the domainbox. So, I suggest you add this code to the top of the page, in place of the existing badge:
{{ Domain_Page | thumbnail = <thumbnail>Classic-Apartments.com</thumbnail> | map = <map section="Address"></map> | badges = {{RealEstateMember}} }}
- The real estate portal logo detracts from the overall appearance of the page, in addition it serves no purpose as there is already a link at the bottom.--Alibermudez 05:48, 8 February 2008 (PST)
- Alexander, I agree, the temporary logo is awful, we do plan to have a better one designed soon. As far as the DomainPage template, would you consider adding it to the bottom of the page? It is not mandatory but nearly all of the DomainPages we have here, have the template, so it is good for consistency. But it really is a collaborative page we are working on here. Best, MarkDilley
- Alex would you share your thoughts on restoring the domain toolbox as Mark has stated above so i can process your page for nomination. Other than that this page is ready to be featured. --Sa'ad talk•email•chat 03:19, 17 March 2008 (PDT)

- Andy, no problem. Why don't you leave a note on my Talk page when you got these finished. I think we might want to feature the whole group (either the hospitality group, or all of Oriel Group -- depending on your inclination). Keep up the great work! --
TakKendrick | Talk
- Hey Andy, if this isn't the 'finished' article, I'll keep my eyes peeled for when you actually do complete it. This is one of the 'best-looking' pages I have seen on about us. Period! Way to go mate! Wasim Sajid | :::talk:::
- I'm "switching" this nomination from KudosHospitality.co.uk to CrownGroup.co.uk, since this is the parent company and the feature will no doubt cover all the pages in the group, all of which and being built out nicely. I'm also leaving a note for Andy to check-in, 'cause it does look like these are now almost all built out. --

- FYI - webmaster hasn't been back since May 2007, so deletion removed in Oct 2007, then restored when webmaster returned, Oct 2007
- I just wanted to leave a note thanking User:FightTimes for updating with the latest cover. I agree with Ted's thoughts above -- maybe adding some extra "meat" to the descriptions could really help this nomination. In terms of recommendations, I'm not entirely sure, but maybe subscription, submission information, and WikiLinks to some of the sponsors and suppliers listed on the website's front page. Again, thanks to User:FightTimes for coming back and it's good to see this returned to the Featured nomination pool.

- Alternatively, what about doing Interwiki links for all of these? I've set up FortWiki in our interwiki database. Even though I know the people at Fort Wiki already know how to do it (since John's the one who taught me), let me give an example for any community member wanting to learn: [[FortWiki:Fort]] goes to the [[Fort]] page on www.fortwiki.com. - Translated AboutUS pages are some of my favorite. However, there needs to be a little more info posted on this wiki page. I think the opportunity to add some informative youtube videos exists for this page and could really help! also try moving the logo up towards the top. You could try and edit the section names and give the page a little more individuality. I do love the fact that there are no red links! However, having empty sections such as "Additional Information" does not help! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help make this a featured page as well as bring more attention to this disturbing disorder. Bryan Daugherty My Talk Page

- What I'd really like to see here (on both pages) is some sort of self-referencing navigation that links the pages (more than just the "Related WikiPages", see AnyStandard.net or LightGroup.com as two WikiPages we've featured in the past that do this in very different ways. For the purposes of slimming the nomination list down, I don't have a problem with treating both as one nomination. -- TakKendrick

- And then I make a reference in the featured discussion about the linked nominations. Anyone want to do this? --
- What I'd really like to see here (on both pages) is some sort of self-referencing navigation that links the pages (more than just the "Related WikiPages", see AnyStandard.net or LightGroup.com as two WikiPages we've featured in the past that do this in very different ways. For the purposes of slimming the nomination list down, I don't have a problem with treating both as one nomination. -- TakKendrick

- Good start on your wikipage! You still need to add some additional information to the site. Instead of linking to how LegalFish works, there could be a section describing it on the wikipage with a link for additional information at the end. Good luck -- Blake Hinckley 14:58, 28 June 2007 (PDT)
- Sounds like an interesting service. The category section could use some editing as could the related domains. A decription of how it works would engage reader more than a link. Kasey 16:26, 12 July 2007 (PDT)
- It looks like Blake's suggestions have been taken into consideration. Kasey's suggestions about categories and related domains still seem relevant, however. Which of the related domains are actually related? Could the rest be removed? Same question about categories. TedErnst | talk 23:16, 27 September 2007 (PDT)

This last big edit today adding a bunch of content also seems good, to have more information, but some of it seems to duplicate, and the format seems a bit inaccessible. - I think the nomination should be placed on the actual domain page Mobile-Hacks.co.uk, or even nominating the user page itself to be a Featured Wikipage is ok. As far as I think, the user meant to nominate the domain page of Mobile-Hacks.co.uk instead. He/she has been messaged regarding this. - Motofanatics -- wow you really added a bunch of great stuff over the weekend! Awesome! BTW: I made a few quick edits, for some reason the image of the store you were linking to was giving Firefox an error. For some reason it was coming across as a really small image (like around 2") but with a very high resolution and the system didn't seem to know how to draw it. I went ahead and uploaded a corrected version to AboutUs (with a more standard resolution and much bigger), but thought I'd let you know about it. - I'm a pretty active member of ofallthedays and I find the concept behind the idea very appealing. Peoples' days really do tell a lot about themselves and as more people from around the world join, you'll get to read about what other people around the world experience in their daily lives. In my opinion, the idea behind ofallthedays is very intelligent and yet, very simple. I've found my membership there to be very exciting. - Megan
- I just saw this on Google and wanted to chime in as well. As Megan already mentioned, ofallthedays does a great job of allowing people from around the world to make posts about their day (the website shows the latest 5). - I for one am quite excited about this nomination, because I get the sense that this organization is doing a great job in helping to take consumer waste (old cell phones, ink cartridges) and finding a way to have these benefit other charities. That said, there's probably some work to be done to really polish up the WikiPage before it's "Feature worthy". Some basic thoughts:
- More information about the Recycling for Charities organization
- Information on the charities this organization helps (and by donating an old cell phone, can I choose specifically which charity, or does my support go towards a general pool)
- This could lead to some basic "frequently asked questions" about the organization, the charities and how the process works
- Maybe a testimonial from a charity that's been helped by this organization...
- Just some of my quick thoughts. I hope they help, as I said I'm very interested in helping to nurture this as a "featured" candidate and helping to build out a great resource on this organization right here on AboutUs. --

- I for one, love that this page was nominated, in part because of the question it raises. Although the website is not pornographic in nature, it does carry and "adult" warning due to content, and I wonder whether it's appropriate to spotlight this kind of website given that AboutUs is a resource for some younger people as well as those who might be more conservative that this website might offend. While I don't personally have a problem with this stuff (and am pleased that such issues are address on the internet), is this something the AboutUs community feels should be spotlighted? --

- Was this question ever resolved, Tak? It seems like an unusual amount of site for a nomination to sit idle without any resolution at all. Did the submission happen to slip through the cracks again? =( - Vaelor 23:29, 12 July 2007 (PDT)
- Hi Vaelor. Perhaps the purpose of my message last month here wasn't clear. This is the place for the discussion to take place on this. I'd been waiting for people from the community to come and discuss this here. I know that several AboutUs community members have looked at the nominees list, although no one has made a comment on this nomination or issue. And no, a month isn't an unusual amount of time on these, depending on buy-in from the community. Generally after two or three months, the discussion on featured nominations are "closed" to keep the nominees list paired down (although the option is always available to renominate pages that have been worked on).

- I'm sorry if this has been confusing, with as many nominations as we get, once we've left a message with concerns or suggested actions to take the ball really is in the court of the WikiPage builder and community. I've been watching this page (both the main SocialDeviancy.com and the Feature Discussion) for several month and waiting for action or comment.

- I'd been in contact via email with Ian Schray (who created this page) over the past week or so. Some of the thoughts for improvement I mentioned to him are:
* This a pretty decent page about the products, but doesn't really say much about the company. I like to think that the "AboutUs" page should include some info about the company, even if it's just a quick paragraph: "Founded in BLAH-BLAH-BLAH, Softpress has offices in YADA-YADA." (Maybe something on Intaglio too. Are there other products Softpress offers?) * Fuller product descriptions, probably including pricing, and a link to the respective product pages for more info. * Maybe in addition to the Pro v. Express list (which is a good start), there can be some sort of paragraph explaining which version suits what type of people or needs. The price difference between the two is so huge, I for one as a potential customer think for $90 download I might take a chance on the Express ('cause I really hate GoLive and have never fallen in love with Dreamweaver), but if that one feature I need is going to cost me $250 for the Pro, I'm more likely to want to play with Dreamweaver for the price, just because it's got the street cred. * On that note, maybe even a "why this is better than the competition" section wouldn't be a bad thing. Somewhere on the Softpress website I read one advantage was the "clean code" generation over other WYSIWYG editors that keep the old code. That was a serious sales point for me (although now I can't find where I read that). * Customer testimonials (if you have them). Even just a link to them on an external site goes a long ways.
- These were just my thoughts, but figured I'd let everyone see what I'd been thinking/mentioned to him as suggested edits. -- TakKendrick | talk

Just revert the changes if you don't like it. Also, I agree that since it's a commercial page, it needs at least a phone number for contact. For example, someone filling out a TrafficWave.net subscription form would receive a system confirmation message asking them to confirm that they did, indeed, request the information. They will then click a system-generated link to confirm. If the link is not confirmed, the address is not added to the database.

- This page can use some breaks in the text by adding subheadings and some more visual images to. Also the contact box is missing which can be useful if a client or company wants to get in contact with you. --Sa'ad talk•email•chat 01:47, 17 March 2008 (PDT)

- This page needs a full description, contact infomation, address and description of services. Links, relevant categories and images would be help the page be more dynamic. I suggest taking the WikiTour to see how to craft a strong page. If you need help or have questions, you can leave me a message. best, Kasey 15:24, 18 January 2008 (PST)

- Appears to be some great resources listed on this page. The page is a bit long but that is largely due to the many links given. Could use some style. WillyP | talk 16:54, 18 December 2007 (PST)
- Great resources listed. Relocating military personnel will find this page helpful. Like to read testimonials. Powerful testimonial listed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ntbrown (talk • contribs) .
Last Chance
These are WikiPages nominated some months ago, that are about to be taken out of consideration for featuring due to lack of comments or improvements to the page. Please see the individual comments and make more. WikiPages on this list which have improvements made will be moved back into the "Still Under Discussion" section. Pages that have been sitting on the potentials list for a couple of months and haven't had any work done on them. Ideally, pages on this list have had their author(s) contacted (if contact info is available). We'll cull this list down every couple of weeks.
Due to space considerations, these pages now live on FeatureMeNominated:LastChance.
Process
This list is generated by AboutUs Staff and CommunityMembers after pages have been nominated by the community. The FeatureMeProcess page has instructions on how to add nominated pages to this list.
Discussion
Please comment on how this mechanism for promoting featured pages is working. Feel free to add any suggestions on how to improve the process.
Using "Add This Here" to nominate a page for featuring
- I have created a Demo for how we can use it for Feature Me Process. If you click the Nominate your page to be featured link below, and add a page name, it will automatically add that page to the list. Although it will not solve all the problems, indeed it's only one step forward, but I think it's something to celebrate. Maybe we add this link somewhere on the main page, and on the Portal:AboutUsFeatureMe and wherever else we think it makes sense. We still need to understand, however, how best we can use this tool for this process.

Inviting Participation in the FeatureMe process
Problem is, from where I can see, the community (I don't mean the staff, of course) doesn't seem to be much engaged in participate; we have a discussion going on here and no one else (AboutUs users like me, I mean) bothered to leave a comment, at least. So, I don't feel very confortable to point a page or my entire list, since I have no one else to back me up. If I did, I think I could spend 10-20 minutes per day to have a look on several pages and make my list (by placing comments on their respective feature discussion). Cle Silva 14:41, 11 February 2008 (PST)
- Cle, I see your point. This is to be expected since we just started to figure out how to do this as a community. First off how do we get the community interested or even seeing this conversation! Let's brainstorm some ideas about how to get that kick started. Sound good? Best, MarkDilley
- I think that it should be made clear to everyone that they are being invited to participate. The way it is now, it looks like "Ok, you may pass, but beware the dog!!". Ok, maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but my point is: people have to feel confident to place their comments. Things like "Edit/Add to this discussion" could be more appealing if it were "You are welcome to edit/Add to this discussion".
- Also, we need to advertise the FeatureMe area. Let me give a practical example: we need to have more links pointing to the FeatureMePotentials page. For example, the "logged in" page: this one have a big blank area and, in my opinion, this should be used for more links pointing to other interesting areas on AboutUs.
- When we log in, we can see a text saying "You are now logged in. You can return to (Page-You-Were-Browsing-Before)" or something like that, I can't remember exactly the text. So, what if we have an additional text and link, saying: "Or else, go to the FeatureMePotentials and give your opinion on the next pages to be featured.", or any other text, just to bring more people here. Previous Process
- One staff member managed this whole process and knew which pages were ready for featuring. When he decided to feature something, he did it. Easy peasy. :-)
Current Process
- Many people are involved in leaving comment for nominees. The staff have a private list of which pages are ready for featuring. We don't have to agree. If anyone thinks a page is ready, she puts it on the list (at the bottom). If someone else agrees, he puts his name next to the nomination as well, and moves it up the list. The more names, the higher it rises on the list. The entry at the top is the next one to be featured. In practice, we never have had more than two names on any one page, and never had more than 5 ready at a time.
Future Process
- I could see us moving two directions. I'd love comments on either as well as other options.
1. We take the current staff "ready" list and make it public, inviting anyone to participate in the same way we're doing it now. Add your name to all that you think are ready. The list is ordered by most names to least, and we feature from the top.
- Comments:
- That looks like the poll I was suggesting before. Anyway, I think that if we are going to have one more list on this page, this should be splitted in more pages, otherwise it may get more and more complicated and unattractive. If not splitted, there should be a "plus sign" or a "show/hide" link beside the section title ( Example: New candidates (show|hide) ). This way, users can hide what they don't want to see. The point is: people are not interested in long pages, they just give up after a few lines read. Sounds like I am speaking by myself, but it's not that. Cle Silva 02:57, 13 February 2008 (PST)
2. We make a radical change, from this model of an individual editor building a page and the rest of us in the peanut gallery throwing suggestions, to a more community, barnraising model. The way I'm envisioning it, as a community, we choose a page or two (or whatever number we can do at any one time, with the number of people we have participating) that we're working on together, that we're barnraising. When someone new comes, they are welcome to nominate themselves to be the beneficiary of a future barnraising, and then they get to work barnraising the pages we're currently working on. That's how the community gets to know new people, and the ones that are known, will be barnraised, while those that are unknown, that don't participate helping others, will not be barnraised.
- Comments:
- Well, this is what is expected, but we know we can't count on this. How many people had their pages nominated and came back to give a little help? I have one idea that may be seen as if I were trying to force participation, but think of something on the "Featured Discussion" section, like "While your nomination is being processed, please take some time to review one of our New Candidates" with a link pointing to this page? Of course, this should be shown only on the candidate page, not on this one. Cle Silva 02:57, 13 February 2008 (PST)
Separate page for FeatureMeNotReady idea
Also, I think that this page should have only the pages that are REALLY ready-to-go, so the bot could work on this list. Other pages should be put in a FeatureMeNotReady list or something like that.
- I think we could do something like that
, maybe just by using sub-sections on this page. In fact, I think that's a great idea. Let's do that as soon as we figure out what to doabout the selction process above. TedErnst (talk)
I thought of that FeatureMeNotReady list because in my opinion this page has been growing very large. Soon it may take very long time to load, even being mostly text. I saved this page on my computer just to check the file size, and the HTML file has, while I am writing this, 244 KB. Let's say my text text is 44 KB (I know I write too much), we still have 200 KB to load. Doesn't seem much, but we have to consider people struggling in dial-up connections, people with not so powerful broadband, and if the file size keeps growing, it may be even unreadable and confusing because of the so many items... So I think it should be splitted in at least 2 pages, leaving on this one the nominations that are still on the game. Cle Silva 03:08, 7 February 2008 (PST)
- I'm in full support of this, and will work to make it happen. One part that is not so clear is to question of how we decide which pages are on which list. Do you have ideas about that? TedErnst (talk)
No ideas. I'm afraid to suggest something that may be misunderstood. Anyway, what if once in 2 weeks, pages that are on the "New candidates" list were moved to the "Under discussion" list, and then pages that are "Under discussion" were transfered to the other page? Cle Silva 08:49, 7 February 2008 (PST)
- I took the first step on this and created FeatureMeNominated:LastChance. What does the size look like now? In order to page back this page further, we need to understand what "ready" means and who decides. More thoughts? TedErnst (talk)
That's an improvement, I liked it, that's the spirit ;) But, what "ready" means and who decides, I just don't know. And frankly, this is something I wouldn't like to dive into. Anyway, I can picture the kind of page that in my opinion is not ready, not even to be listed on the "New Candidates" list:
- not much information;
- too much text (blah-blah-blah), and not much information;
- no images at all;
- clearly intending to take advantage of the free advertisement provided by AboutUs, by announcing products and putting prices, as if AboutUs were a free ads newspaper;
- Too much external links;
- Not following the AboutUs wiki design standards (no wiki formatting, too much visual styles, etc...)
and the list goes on... Cle Silva 02:55, 8 February 2008 (PST)
- Well, unless we have a clear idea who decides, and how, it's not going to happen, clearly. Plus, the more I think about it, the more I'm not sure who benefits. I think an easier task would be to move pages from the existing alphabetical lists to Last Chance quicker. That would get them off this page. Pages where work is going on would not have this happen, so what's left would be a cleaner, higher-quality list. What do you think? TedErnst (talk) 10:18, 8 February 2008 (PST)
Yes, that's a good option. I didn't mention that because I thought that was the way things worked: from New candidates to Under discussion (alpha list), then to Last chance. So in the end, no need for big changes. I had some more ideas, but I think they would conflict too much with the current process, so I consider finished my participation on this topic. Thank you for listening! Cle Silva 14:27, 11 February 2008 (PST)
- In my opinion, we don't need to worry too much about the current process. If there's a better process and a way to take steps in that direction, we can do it. It's a wiki, so nothing's carved in stone, and we don't need to keep doing things one way just because that's the way we've done them before. TedErnst (talk) 15:12, 11 February 2008 (PST)
