There’s something that occasionally bothers me when I attend contemporary worship services. It seems that, in some cases, worship has “descended” to being an art form. Especially with seeker-friendly services, it seems that everything about the service has to be aesthetically pleasing. There’s mood music when we enter, along with pleasant visuals (whether on screen or on the stage). The hymns (oops, I mean choruses, how silly of me, who sings those dumb hymns anymore?) are presented with slick computer projection so we don’t have to look at boring black-and-white song books. Prayers are never done acapella; there always has to be a background track. Ditto with Bible reading or the Lord’s Supper.
