Sometimes, I think I have the ability to offer people decent advice concerning a broad range of topics, usually related to electronics, but perhaps others things, as well. This is usually related to continual dissapointment that I try to recognize so that I may avoid it in the future. I’ve made some overall suggestions (warnings, really) that might come in handy for some of you:

Never support a sports team that I am rooting for. Whether it’s the Redskins, Cavaliers, Nats, or the USA Soccer team playing the goths from Prague, you are bound to be dissapointed with the results in the worst possible way.

Never be the first to buy a piece of electronics. This may be the only time an extended warranty is appropriate. My formerly-awesome 360 is now a useless paperweight. The worst part is that I don’t even play it that much, and I didn’t do anything to break it (constricting airflow, moving it around, etc.) other than install the latest “Microsoft Update”. After multiple calls lasting about an hour with a final heroic attempt to get the thing fixed for free (it’s 6 months old, but the standard 360 warranty is fucking THREE MONTHS), I was pwnd by some punk-ass manager at the Microsoft call center who told me that my 360 would actually have to set my house on fire before they would replace it for free (not making this up). When I followed-up with my smart ass comment, “well, what if I call back and tell you my house is on fire?” he politely reminded me that our conversation was “recorded” under a common tracking number that was already associated with my console’s serial number and personal information. I guess the other lesson here is, don’t give ‘em any info until you’re done threatening the managers.
