- On the day of my birth, I was given a nickname. It was right about the same time that the hit movie, “The Goonies” came to theatres. My mom said she held me in her arms and said “This is my little Goonie”. So I was dubbed. This may be an exaggerated tale, I sure don’t remember how it all went. But I do know that all throughout my life I had been called Goonie…or some form of goonie: “Goonie bird”, “Goonie monster”, “the Goonster”, etc. I didn’t always like it. I remember trying to keep it a secret from all my friends. I think my friend Jessica was the first to discover my nickname and she even still mockingly calls me Goonie to this day. I guess I’ve grown to love it. It’s who I am.
