Silver Moon Alpacas was founded in 1996 by husband and wife, David Ward and Laura Scott. Laura is an R.N. and artist and David is a Civil Engineer and musician.
Silver Moon Alpacas began on a middle class budget. Beginning with one female and a pet quality male, Laura and Dave grew a "herd" of eight alpacas before starting to offer their alpacas for sale in 1998. That same year, the couple left their native city of San Francisco and moved to five acres of mountain property in Middletown, California. At that point, they hoped to get their fencing up and have the alpacas join them immediately. Things didn't quite work out the way they had planned and in January of 2000, they moved to Bodega, a tiny coastal town in Northern California.
Despite the glitches in their plans, alpacas have truly been a vehicle to transport them to a slower-paced and more thoughtful lifestyle. And the dividends in general life learning have been huge.
