- I met Michel Gondry a few years back. It was on my first visit to Iceland. He is the guy who wrote and directed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. As we inch further and further into summer here in Reykjavík, I am beginning to understand his inspiration for the title of his movie. The sun is not setting these days until just before 11:00 PM. It does not get dark until after midnight and then it never really gets dark. It is like twilight the entire evening. Sunrise tomorrow with be 3:59 AM. When I was home last month for Katie´s grandfathers funeral, I purchased two sleep masks. I thought I would never be able to use one but it has been an incredible purchase. Today we will have almost 18 hours of sunlight, and by the end of the month over 20 hours of sunlight a day. We are trying to figure the rhythm of life here in Iceland. During the winter people sleep for up to 10 hours a night but during the summer as little as 5 hours depending on the person. I must admit I have to make my self go to bed at night. It is so hard to head to bed when it is sunny and beautiful outside. I am loving all of the sunlight. It is so nice to take late night walks in total sunlight.
