- I think SpySheriff.com is problematic because the community review information is posed as the descriptive information of the website. This may be ok here because of the nature of the site, but not sure about the general concept. Also, do we feel comfortable calling it Malware or is PossibleMalware more accurate? MarkDilley
- Because the template is generic, "possible malware" may be correct but SpySheriff in particular is clearly malware.Just look at the Google results for a search for "SpySheriff" (http://www.google.com/search?q=SpySheriff&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a )for a idea of how notorious SpySheriff is. --Spacegeek4 20:53, 12 April 2007 (PDT)

- It's been a few weeks since I've logged in (my bad), and was surprised to see a really neat caricature of myself on my User page. Too cool - looks better than the original Redlake6
- Glad you like the caricature. Not sure which of our magic elves orchestrated that one, but credit for how it looks of course goes to Rhoda at DigitalPainting.com. She does all the various caricatures you see on the site, along with those on ICANNwiki and WikiIndex.org. --

- Spacegeek4, thanks for pointing these out. I think that the value of AboutUs is the fact that we have information on these sites so that users can know that these are malware and have a discussion about this. I note that both pages have "Community Reviews" attesting to this, but this information can be made ever more valuable by supplanting those reviews with the information and links you've provided here. I don't want to speak for the rest of the AboutUs community when I say this, but that's certainly what I'd do with these malware sites and other known "bad guys". I see AboutUs as potentially being a great resource when people are considering purchasing or downloading software (or other goods and services), and that the open edit format allows users to share first hand not just their advertising-slanted text, but real human concerns and experiences that might not be voiced on the so called "objective" websites. Sorry for the diatribe, but this is a soapbox I'm very fond off. -- TakKendrick
- I aggree. It is a good idea to warn users about the "dark alleys" of the internet but the link on top of every page could be dangerous. According to Stop Badware's website guidelines (http://www.stopbadware.org/home/guidelines#website) a SINGLE link to an exploit site makes the linking site a "website that hosts or distrubutes badware" and a large amount of links to other badware sites also makes the site bad.Its a bit over protective but those are the guidelines.I'll rewrite the articles that I noted sometime.--Spacegeek4 20:58, 11 April 2007 (PDT)

- In case you didn't notice, the brand new main page layout is now live! This includes re-visioned pages for Welcome content, Help guides, Guidelines, information on how to Create pages and users on AboutUs, Community information, and FeatureMe info on featured wiki pages. Thanks to all the AboutUs Staff who's been working hard on this the last couple of weeks. There's still some tweaks planned over the upcoming days, but everyone seems to be happy with things so far. - In further Mac news, hackers have dissected the $300 AppleTV and converted it to the world's cheapest Mac yet. Apparently the conversion isn't the easiest of tasks to perform, but its at least interesting to read about even if you're not ready to get your hands dirty. Read the article here Chris
- In it's latest batch of 'whoop-ass', Apple has released a neW version of the MacPro tower which has had everyone at the office salivating for the past 24 hours. The computer boasts 8 processors with configurations up to 16gb of RAM and 2 terrabytes of hard drive space! If you're interested in spending the $10k+, check out Apple.com for configuration information. Keep in mind, this computer can literally kill you it's so fast. Chris

We're still working out a few bugs, but feel free to take a look at WikiTest and leave us a note on Thoughts on New Home Page. - Pepsi has launched a new promotion and a website to go with along it. At DesignOurPepsiCan.com link you have the chance to design the new Pepsi can, and win $10,000 in the process. - Just the other day we were gabbing about the lack of wi-fi on airplanes since Boeing's pilot program (no pun intended) -- Connexion -- had it's flights canceled (pun intended) back in August. Well, today Electronista.com is reporting that Colorado-based AirCell has purchased the rights with the FCC to proceed with a new service putting wi-fi hotspots on airplanes by 2008. - Yeah, I'm not digging this at all. It's way too weird and complex. Why is it that plenty of other sites are able to simply use the embed code provided by YouTube.com, yet we're not? I don't think adding video is useful when we go away from internet standards and force people to learn new things just to use our site. I don't understand the XSS (XSSed.com) argument as MySpace.com doesn't have a problem with it. ScottKeeler | :::talk:::

- Apple Computers and EMI today announced that starting in May, the popular iTunes store with start carrying high-quality DRM-free songs from the EMI catalog, for $1.29. This is a major first step in fixing (ie. abolishing) the horrible DRM (Digital Rights Management) movement which caused users to not be able to move songs they've purchased into other formats or to other music players.
