just looking over the project page I see you are currently focusing on adding content such as under/graduate application essays, that is a great idea. I believe that I could come up with some new sections for the lab with a little brainstorming! I would be most interested in hearing some ideas from you as well as saliha to give me a little more direction in adding something unique and useful to help draw in some participation from within and outside the community! I look forward to sharing these thoughts whenever you have time. Also, I could post a few college research papers that I have completed and received honors for. You may have noticed on my personalpage that I have plans to post my ongoing sustainable agriculture business plan that I have been working on for some land I currently own in Maine. I think this will help for those who want a comprehensive concept of a Business plan as well as a blue print for sustainable agriculure / development practices. Within these plans I as well have incorperated a detailed list of plans for every facet of operation. Perhaps we can as well provide a section on individuals who wish to learn how to begin and maintain live projects.. I cleaned up the Drinking Water paper, and have made another news article titled The_State_Of_Security_In_America. Unfortunately I will have to retype much of my business plan however it is a task that had to be done anyways, In the meantime I will brainstorm with some of your suggestions. I think that while examining the articles, content and personalpages (if they have any) with due consideration with each of the new members interests, welcomers could help direct new members to the Portal:Writing_Lab if they notice they have a stong background for content production. This as well applies to the various other Portals and categories that may produce more user participation! Many of these AboutUs features alreay have a great platform in place but may just need a little more user participation which will increase its visibility! Fatima, Good Morning from New York as well as happy Labor Day! I will definately make those suggested edits either later today or tonight.. I also wholeheartedly agree that we should definately use "structure" and "direction" while planning new things for the Portal:Writing_Lab and will try to make a task list for myself to prioritize the steps I need to take to offer the aboutus community some helpful info on our brainstorm of Business Plans... I definitely think you are on the right track here. The general organization of the pages, the conceptual schema, and the comments you leave on links are all good. Also, way to go on image citations!

One thought: what about a section for related terms (categories): Epicurean, Philosophy, etc. Pick the ones you think are most relevant.

I would like to elaborate though on the "john doe" reasoning if it seems it isnt clear.   • Sounds good... I really think that we can develop the idea of "a thesis" over the course of an academic career. such as you may write over your highschool and collegiate career numerous papers as I am sure you are aware. so say for example, a freshman in college is a social science / liberal art major, he/she then, depending on various coursework at different colleges, must follow the outlined academic plan in order to receive a degree. many of these courses correspond with eachother such as; Soc of Crime & Deliq, Minorities in American culture, environmental chemistry, philosophy, etc.. many or all of these courses require a paper in some manner, if you felt as if you wanted to seek a post graduate degree in the future in say, Criminology, Sociology, etc, one of your requirements is a dissertation. obviously each paper would be relevant in its own specific way to your overall (at a later date) thesis. This was originally brought up by a conversation that I had with Dr. Bill McCarthy a couple years ago. I understand that your portal is academic by nature, and that this may be difficult to tie in. Perhaps it could be best illustrated in an community article titled "Ideas for Successful Academics" or "How to approach your Post Graduate Dissertation in 12th Grade" (I like that 1!) I hope that you may find some time to brainstorm about this as a means to perhaps even poll aboutusstaff and activemembers to see if they have any ideas as well! just a thought! | talk--DaughertyBw 23:25, 3 September 2007 (PDT)

Hey Fatima!

I just wanted to check in with you and leave some notes on the work you've done so far. These are just my ideas, and I'd love to hear your arguments to the contrary if you disagree - we can learn a lot here!

  • Category:Flowers: Overall, this page is very good. The content is very full, although I think a couple more hours would be needed to make this page perfect. One idea I've been pushing for is to simplify and pair down these pages. To sum up, focus on what a user is really searching for with the search term 'flower.' I think you've done a good job of this with on the Flowers page (pictures, buy or send sections are good, for instance), but I see some information that could be linked to as a subpage (and another search term itself). 'Flower Meanings', for example, is probably something someone would do a specific search for, and you should link to this page from the 'Flowers' page but not include all these links here. I'm not sure how this breaks down overall, so please leave any thoughts you have on this on the task page. Oh - one more note: interesting approach to the intro sentence here, although I don't think it is best to double link to wikipedia here. Do you think a more general statement might be better in addition to this disambiguation?
  • Ball Candles: This one looks great (awesome images - and great job doing citations, by the way)! I would add a short description sentence at the top so the user knows what these things are, basically. Link descriptions are good, but could be a bit more specific (we all need to find a balance here!). Good balance between internal and external linking! I would include links to category pages that might be related or relevant in this case: lighting, candles, wax, ect. (whatever you can think of).
  • Aggravated Assault: This article seems very interesting, although I'm unsure if this document should be the only thing on the aggravated assault page (thoughts?). I would think it would be better to link to information like this and present a more rounded view of all the information in our categories and from google searches on this page. I know that this isn't a common answers term, but it might be good to start looking at all of our content creation this way. Definitely let me know what you think on this since it is a personal project - just thought I'd drop in my two cents.
  • Category:Blue's Clues: I think the overall conceptual layout of this article is very sensible - great work! The top description is also great - short but gets to the heart of what needs to be said. Very nice job here! The only comment - add short descriptions to more of the links. I personally think this is very valuable, but am open to reconsideration if you can convince me otherwise!
  • Category:Epicurus: Another great job here! Very good link descriptions, conceptual framework etc. I think that the 'Epicureans' section might be better on that page Category:Epicurean, since it is related but probably not what the user would be looking for given this search term. Open to your thoughts on this though...
  • Category:Alzira: I think this page is great!
  • Category:Name Meanings: This is another good page, although I think there is too much overlap with 'Baby Names' and you should simplify by linking to this information on the 'Baby Names' category (Tanwir is working on this, no?).
  • Category:Flowers: This page is quite good as well, although I'm not sure all of the different sections of the page are necessary. Someone searching for 'flowers' would probably not be interested in the singer unless they added another term to indicate this - this section could be moved I think, although it should be referenced from this page as related. Other than that, the outline makes great sense.

Great work overall here! Please collect any reactions you have to my comments or to this process on the task page for this week - I'm really excited to see what you come up with this week!

Hey Fatima! RC is actually a community priority though you are more than welcome to join hands with us. The reason why you can't patrol right now is that you haven't been given the sysop status - which you should have been by now. I'll ask Arif to add you to the sysop list. You can also leave him a message if you want to.

It's always good to be in the IRC even when you are working from home in order to facilitate communication. You can download chatzilla or use web based IRC for the purpose. I agree with you also that we haven't yet mastered communicating about the projects and the way they should be dealt with. Anyway if you want to get a task prioritized, simply create a page for it and add it to the parking lot so that you can get other people to see why it is important. Maybe you can also do the initial work on that page on your own until somebody joins you. Best, Asad

fatima I hope you're havin a ball :( anyway :( writing lab .. hmm I think I'll be doing what I proposed in the last period i.e. contacting colleges and coming up with some good college application essay for undergrad as well as grad skool (i never found any!) and analyzing them according to the pointers you listed. I feel so guilty for having ignored the portal since like two and a half weeks TOTALLY but what can I do they TOLD us to ignore it specifically and work on LASIK *sigh* im sure in London its still better to work on LASIK :|:| anyway what about Art talk ? did u talk to ur friend about contributions etc ? do leme know- and yeah the above is what ill do regarding the Lab :) tc enjoy yourself.. and no nothing special is happening except theyve prioritized LASIK for the rest of the month and the LASIK common answers needed some 'perfecting' to be done - thats about it :( Salihawaqar

First of all, thanks for looking at my glasgow portal page. I was wondering if you could tell me how you can nominated a portal to be a featured portal of whether this just rotates through all of them? portland tech and other stuff

since you uasked me to update you .. the new tasks are in since yesterday and there was an irc discussion on them as well however, they are pretty much clear on the content task page.. as in the directions on how to build out like 200 pages for technological IT based companies in portland.. just an aboutus page.. not like LASIK thank heavens! that is the prioritized task for this semester! anyway.. i loved the graffiti and all that you but on the art talk page.. the building of artists pages is a great idea but how do we start inviting artists now then? let me know! also, i added rays daughter article in a section called 'child art' that i put in as well.. oh btw, ray's coming on the 5th of this month for two weeks i think.. heres the link for the portland tech thing btw portland tech....also goto content task page for other details !!anyway take care :) Salihawaqar

now is a Friday evening, and i am sitting in internet cafe after return from school,where i am try to be add some test of art in my every second life. you know how many time live one ant and how much do work in a second...actually we cant calculating it, and just come to my point here art is like that, and as a creator i am also running till now.and here i got so many options and so many forms in a one road. yes some time i fill that road having more demantions. after i scroll my all images which i get from the various angle.

when ever , lastly i should be telling that art having more forms, it may comes from yours daily life or thinking pad where you do more sketching. and it may comes by consciously or unconsciously in yours moving world. but in generally now days i see more floating images around me like my evening sky........
