The goal of the site is to encourage people from all walks of life to share some of their ideas, opinions, beliefs, etc. By enforcing some basic rules, and creating a focused set of categories (politics, religion, philosophy, etc), the site has become a source of interesting and mostly-civil debate topics.
The political discussion forums
are the bread and butter of the site. They provide most of the content for the front-page and the xml feeds that continue to keep our loyal user-base coming back for more.
The name is a combination of the words volcano and conversation (heated debate). The issues are controversial, the opinions on them are varied, so the discussions can get intense.
