A brief story of the beginning of the Similan Guide

The Similan Guide is the accumulated diving know how of several years of diving around the Similan islands.

It was always handy to have some good dive site maps ready to explain your costumers the dive sites in the briefing just before the dive. Well, the only thing was, at the time I started diving at the Similans, there was not that many good dive site maps available, especially good ones were very rare and kept quite confidential.

So, I started to draw my own ones. I compared my maps to the ones of my college dive guides and so they become more accurate and also better over time. It took my quit a while until I got my maps of each dive site together.

From time to time some costumers or younger dive guides asked me about my maps. They wanted some copies for their own use or just for their memories at home.

The Similan Guide is my way to provide the divers, skin divers and dive guides with some helpful maps and information about diving at the Similan islands.

Additional Informations

The Similan islands are for sure one of the top ten dive sites in the world. Whether you travel with a live aboard to the Similan islands or on a day trip boat, you will enjoy these islands in the Andaman Sea.

The dive sites are just great and marine life is abundant and most colorful…

In Khao Lak you will find the Dive Center of your choice. There are many different day trip as well as live aboard tour operators available.

Of course there are some nice and good guesthouses in Khao Lak and the souraounding villages available.

The Similan Guide presents: The Similan islands

The Similan Marine National Park was founded in 1982 as the 43rd National Park of Thailand. The park area is about 140 sq km. The islands and rocks itself are just about 16 sq km.

The islands consist of massive boulders and rocks most of them are completely covered with threes and plants.

Just a few kilometers north of Khao Lak there is the lovely Bangsak beach right at the cost of the Andaman Sea. Approximately 60 km in the west from here are the Similan islands – Thailand’s ultimate divers paradise.

Information about Khao Lak

Khao (mountain) Lak is not just the name of a small village but also of a 25 km long area at the cost of the Andaman Sea in the province of Phang Nga. Khao Lak is situated approximately 100 km north of Phuket.

The Similan islands are very close and on days with a good visibility you may even see Ko Similan - island # 8 and Ko Bon.

Have you ever thought about an elephant trek through the jungle and beautiful backyard of Khao Lak. Yes. Well then you should visit the Asia Safari camp. There you can get in touch with the mahouts and their elephants…
