The uniqueness of Ignite Portland is the challenge of a format that's something between a Powerpoint presentation and a speed-chess tournament – participants get 5 minutes to present 20 slides of 15 seconds each to discuss pretty much whatever they want. Presentations are picked on the merit of "how interesting they are" rather than other subjective criteria such as themes, and since there's no keynote, all presenters are equal.

Ignite Portland, the brainchild of the non-profit Legion of Tech, offers another semi-unique blush to the local tech landscape – they're free for presenters and attendees alike.
