Redirect or Moving pages

  • Redirect for GE Appliances - dishwasher recall - pages not available. 7/31/07 1:40 pm

This link is not working from TheWikiWay. Unable to move page back to the name I used when I created it either. This is not returned to normal by now.

And cannot save a copy of the misdirected ReleaseEarlyReleaseOften to a new page for Release Early Release Often.

  • I cannot enter the site from http://www.aboutus.org/The_Wiki_Way . I get the following error The page isn't redirecting properly "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." - Scott Keeler Comment_green.gif 00:47, 25 July 2007 (PDT)
  • I renamed PortarosA.it to Portarosa.it to correct the name. It isn't redirecting properly so I haven't been able to fix. If possible change it to PortaRosa.it. Tnx.
  • Noticing some broken redirects: USG.com, NRGEnergy.com. ChrisBabson
  • The Africa category has an accent mark over the "A" causing category:Africa to appear as a red link.
  • The adress that you give for the festival of russian cinema in Honfleur : festival-honfleur.com has been false for the last 4 years. The correct address is www.festival-honfleur.fr. Thank you to take notice and congratulations for your good job.

Some examples of redirect that don't seem to be casespace related that aren't working: TakKendrick should redirect to User:TakKendrick. On the opposite end, User:MarkDilley should be redirecting to MarkDilley, also John Stanton.

  • don't know if it is related - but my photo in my profile is not displaying: David Braden
    • Ah, thanks. I just double checked the long term fix I put in place to stop this happening again and improved it, although this is probably just one that got missed. We should be on the lookout for any further pages that need to be purged and do them large scale. - Jason Parmer 22:14, 18 July 2007 (PDT)

The Network Weavers box at http://networkweavers.net using the About Us Network WEavers Values box doesn't edit correctly. It doesn't update content when edited.

I've just been hammered by your server 209.139.1.11 (www.lilrc.org). Starting 7/28/2007 10:51:21 till 10:55:53 , all times are PST. I have a block on my FTP server that stops any attempt after 20. I emailed , and the email was bounced. Help? V. Main

What links here

I have been moving some pages (changing names to correct caps) and sometimes the WhatLinksHere pages are auto changing to reflect the new name BUT sometimes they are just disappearing, gone, zap! I'm wondering why? --User:Di | talk 01:57, 28 July 2007 (PDT)

Because they link to the old name. You have to manually fix every page that linked to the old name and change the links to reflect the rename. A move does not move referring pages. This is not an error, this is a quirk of MediaWiki. Nathan (talk) / 09:07, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Which at a meta level might be an error! :-) You should probably tab o ut a What LinksHer page before you move.. ~~ MarkDilley

Yes, I know that WhatLinksHere pages need to be manually changed to reflect the rename. I've been doing that which is why I check them. I thought I was seeing things when I moved a page and the WhatLinksHere pages just automatically changed (not redirected). They usually redirect and then I access them from the renamed page and change each one individually, sometimes a big job. But If they aren't redirected now, then I can't change them. I might be able to change them individually BEFORE doing the move/rename. seems that's the only way to do it now, or am I slowly going crazy ;-)? --User:Di | talk 17:21, 28 July 2007 (PDT)
See Qualmark.co.nz The previous page had many WhatLinksHere pages and I went to fix them but they are gone. This was not the way it was pre site update. Help pls - should I have changed them before moving the page? User:Di | talk Okay, IF I have a WhatLinksHere page open Before moving a page. I can access the pages that need changing. They are not redirecting and I know they were before as I've been moving lots of New Zealand pages to correct Maori language place name spelling. Yippee, I've found a way to make it work. - Di

Random?

I've had a random issue when patrolling the old-school Special:RecentChanges. I've had a few diffs when I got to tab them out take me instead to the current page instead of showing the normal diff. One such page as an example is DoubleGPress.com. This in and of itself isn't really a problem so long as they work in uber patrol, but perhaps its worth a heads-up because I don't know what would be making this happen. KristinaWeis 01:24, 29 July 2007 (PDT)

Oh, looking at the history of DoubleGPress.com it was just "moved" so that would explain it. KristinaWeis 01:30, 29 July 2007 (PDT)

e-mail confirmation

I am trying to confirm my e-mail so that I can get e-mail notice on my watch list. The system says that I was previously sent a confirmation code - which I cannot find - and does not seem to be sending me a new code (tried twice with several hours in between). David Braden

UserPages and Adult Flagging

We are not able to flag user pages that are adult in nature, say an escort service. Do we want to proceed doing these by hand, or implement flagging as we can on domain wiki pages? Kasey 13:39, 9 August 2007 (PDT)

My understanding from talking to the developers is that currently the flag tool is designed to work on DomainPages only. We should work out the kinks on it there first and then decide if we want to expand it's usefulness to other pages. So, yes, for now we'll be flagging pages of an adult nature that aren't DomainPages by hand. -- TakCaricatureSm.jpg TakKendrick | Talk 22:59, 9 August 2007 (PDT)

Confusing error message

I tried to go to http://www.aboutus.org/index.php?title=Saas.org&action=history but received the following error message:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

from within function "Job::pop". MySQL returned error "1213: Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction (10.10.10.207)".

A few minutes later the query worked properly. --Eohippus 14:37, 16 August 2007 (PDT)

Problem With Uberpatrol

While uberpatrolling I notice that the character "&" in the title of the page 1) breaks the page into parts (only the first half of the page appears in the "diff_content" section) and 2) makes the page to appear again and again after it has been patrolled. Asad

Column for Ads by Google is too narrow

In the column of "Ads by Google", the width is sometimes not enough for the URL to fit, with the result that the URL appears to be truncated. This happens with both the old skin and the new one. --Eohippus 08:31, 5 September 2007 (PDT)

New skin doesn't show the map

On pages where the old skin would display a map, the new one doesn't. Moreover, the address text doesn't become blue and clickable using the new skin. See BeaconsField.ca. --Eohippus 09:55, 5 September 2007 (PDT)

Scraper includes extraneous text with description derived from meta tags

Please see Basa.co.za. The description (taken from the website's description) includes code which shouldn't be there. --Eohippus 10:47, 11 September 2007 (PDT)

OpenID

2 issues:

  1. when I log in from open id, my user preferences get changed, particularly the signature. It resets it to MarkDilley instead of MarkDilley
  2. since the NewSkin update I am now getting logged out when I use open id - all the time... so I have had to back to original log in. ~~ MarkDilley

1 is a fairly ancient problem, that's why I always use user/password instead of openid. It's been that way as far back as I can remember. Nathan (talk) 13:59, 12 September 2007 (PDT)

Yes, I have the same problem with 1, for a long time - it forgets my email as well as the signature. TedErnst | talk 16:06, 12 September 2007 (PDT)
Actually I am also being logged out of my regular login. grmpf! ~~ MarkDilley

Incorrect whois information

I just got AboutUsBot to create Etfo.org, and the address shown is incorrect. Either AboutUsBot is using an out-of-date Whois database or something else has gone wrong. The correct address can be found at http://whois.domaintools.com/etfo.org or at Etfo.on.ca. --Eohippus 13:05, 13 September 2007 (PDT)

The Whois information we have is a bit out of date, and we have a WhoisRefresh project to address it. Jason Parmer 12:00, 26 September 2007 (PDT)

Captcha Issues

Tried to save the original bot scrape version of this page: 1stok.com. Captcha came up and didn't work no matter how many times I tried. I was able to save the page as a blank page. Isabel 17:27, 21 September 2007 (PDT)

Pages are still getting spammed by IP: PurchasePhentermine.info, UK-Wedding-Directory.com, Qinfeng-agri.com. Does that mean a problem with the captcha, or does it mean it's a human being adding these links? TedErnst | talk 09:40, 22 September 2007 (PDT)
Captcha comes up anytime I try to add the PossibleSpamSite, which is a bit annoying. Nathan (talk) 18:47, 24 September 2007 (PDT)
Unfortunately, my guess is that's going to be the situation, since that template has an external link in it. Maybe the Dev guys can cook up some sort of exception, but then the problem is that it becomes a way for the ne'er-do-wells to exploit. No one said the captcha wasn't going to have some pains, sorry it's affecting the constructive (and building) stuff you're doing. -- TakKendrick
Aha. I forgot about the obvious external link in the template. Makes sense now. Nathan (talk) 19:01, 24 September 2007 (PDT)

Subdomains and "almost-top-level" domains

This request relates to the subdomain issue, but proposes a short-term fix that could be implemented quickly and easily.

AboutUs already recognizes several domains such as on.ca and co.uk as “almost-top-level” domains which serve a geographical or category subdivision of a country so that AboutUsBot can automatically create entries for domains such as example.on.ca or example.co.uk I am not sure where the list of these "almost-top-level" domains is located, but I would like to propose some additions to it.

Many other “almost-top-level” domains are not recognized as such, which keeps articles on domains within these “almost-top-level” domains from being automatically created.

Please add the following as “almost-top-level-domains”.

  • gov.et
  • edu.et
  • gc.ca
  • nl.ca
  • mb.ca
  • nu.ca
  • k12.ca.us
  • nic.in
  • co.nr
  • gov.nr
  • k12.ak.us
  • k12.or.us (and k12.*.us if you can use a star that way - otherwise add the k12 subdomain for all U.S. states and territories, including DC), so that Mesd.k12.or.us can be automatically created
  • state.ak.us

search and redirects

Search seems to be different now, with just google and no mediawiki search? Anyway, the point is redirects don't seem to work from search. For example, I searched for "Wiki Way" and instead of going to TheWikiWay, I went to WikiWay which is a redirect to TheWikiWay. Can this be fixed? TedErnst | talk 02:00, 25 September 2007 (PDT)

The mediawiki search is showing up for me (in Firefox on a Mac), but way at the bottom of my screen, and only after a bunch of whitespace. This must be a bug in the AdSense for Search implementation. -- TakKendrick

Page Move Bug

If you leave the new title empty, the code crashes. The error seems to be "Fatal error: Call to a member function getText() on a non-object in /home/dev/nimbus/aboutus/wiki/extensions/CaseSpace/CaseSpace.php on line 238"
