The Foundation refers to these languages as "Digitally Endangered Languages", and attempts to fulfill its mission by working directly in several countries on development of technological terminology, as well as on translation and localisation of Free and Open Source Software to the language of the country. It is also developing – through the WordForge project – a set of advanced software translation tools that will help small countries and regions develop their own terminology and easily translate Free and Open Source Software to the local language(s), without needing highly trained computer scientists or professional translators.
