Living your dream
To have a dream
We have a certain dream about living with more variation, independency, less hurry and arranging. What else do we want in life? We want more with less. More rest, satisfaction with less stress for example.Living your dream
After a short break in the country, we start fantasizing about our dreams in the nearby future. What we want to do in lets say five years? Were to work, were to BE? At that moment, both of us worked hard as professionals in social work. Thea with young dropouts and John working with psychiatric people. John also had a coaching practice. We lived in Breda in a middleclass owner-occupied property. Our children left home for study and jobs doing well on their own. There was no empty nest syndrome.
There was a lot of working going on and the prospects were looking good, in the eyes of the public at large but… for ourselves traveller blood warmed up. Why work to pay for a car that you need for your work to pay the mortgage etc.? Is there no other way of living?
More variation, independency, less hurry and arranging? What do we REALLY need? What else do we want in life? We want more with less. More rest, satisfaction with less stress for example.
First, we looked in Ireland for a place where we could live and work, to fulfil our dream, further away from the busy life in Holland. We had the plan to settle here, life in the country, working with horses. Ireland is actually one of the most expensive countries to live in within Europe. Therefore, that wasn’t quite it.
Following your dream
Somewhere along the line, we came up with the idea of applying our thoughts on the mainland. In a special way: resign from our jobs, cancel the practice, and buy two horses and a wagon. Behold the ingredients for the Slow Express, a project in which only the direction is set and not a goal.
The goal will unfold itself and afterwards we might be able to formulate it.
How this will end up in a world that is entirely submitted to the regime of purpose? We our self are children of that generation! You can follow our road here. On our website. You can also react and ask questions here, as long as they don’t take too much of our time, we will do our outmost to answer them. For the next time we will follow our dreams.
