Gregory Carson currently works at UBS Investment Bank in the Technology & Media Telecommunications Group. He does M&A, LBO and financings for competitive and emerging telecommunications where he focuses on opportunities such as WiMax, Spectrum, Next Generation Access, Hosting/Interconnect, VoIP, and Wireless. His clients have included Vonage, Telx, EarthLink, Vodafone and Atlantic TeleNetwork, among others. He has completed over $1.5bn in transactions for a wide range of companies.
Prior to UBS, Gregory was a principal at Thornhill Partners where he completed numerous engagements including advising IBM Strategy, Mobile, Media and Entertainment, and Global Services on numerous projects including their Sony/ Toshiba/Cell Joint Venture project(powers Sony Playstation 3) for product extension, Mobile, Digital Media and their internal launch of a Games Sector initiative, NBC Sports with their broadcast Music Royalty management system, and the Public Broadcasting System with their new business growth initiatives. One of these initiatives resulted in a $1.0bn+ business for IBM. Other clients included AMD, Simon and Schuster, GreetnWin, Secured Services, Universal/Sona Mobile, and Pfizer Prior to Thornhill Partners, Gregory played a leading role in govWorks (a KKR/ Mayfield Investment), where he launched a large scale government transaction system and completed three acquisitions, prior to its acquisition by First Data Corporation (FDC). Prior to govWorks, Gregory was the founder and CEO of renowned strategic consultancy software company, EchoLink, in Southern California. His clients included AOL, Sempra Energy, Gateway Computers, Mailboxes Etc., Merck, Softbank, NCR and Qualcomm. Gregory was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Southern California in 1998. And his company was a Deloitte and Touche Fast 500 winner in 1999.
Gregory studied Computer Science at the University of California/San Diego Supercomputer Center, Entrepreneurial Leadership at the exclusive MIT "Birthing of Giants" Program, and holds an MBA in Finance and Strategy from the Wharton School of Business. Gregory was a Founding Member of the New York Angels and has been an investor and board member of numerous companies including Enicial Ventures (where he was active in VC investment), Digit Wireless, and FreePlay Music (the Broadcast Music Management Company that is partially owned by NBC).
Gregory lives in the New York area with his wife Hanna and his son Elias.
