Welcome to Local 870’s Web Site. This site was created to improve the Local Unions ability to communicate with our members. With this goal in mind we have created a series of links to features we believe you will find useful and informative.

Members of UFCW Local 870's predecessor union, Retail Clerk's Local 1265 (Dept. Store Employees) picket Kahn's department store during the 1946 General Strike. For days Oakland was shut down as street car conductors, teamsters, sailors, machinists, telephone workers and other union members affiliated with the Labor Council ceased work in support of striking retail clerks at Kahns.
