- Back in London too late for the Critics’ Circle lunch at the National Theatre Tuesday honoring Helen Mirren (below) with its 2006 Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts. Having won the Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Emmy awards and many more, the star of the film “The Queen” and television’s “Elizabeth I” capped an extraordinary year with the Critics’ prize although, as my old mate David Gritten, Daily Telegraph film critic and chairman of the film section, pointed out at the ceremony, the decision was made before all the others last November.
