Stanford Cricket Club Home - competitive cricket in the San Francisco Bay Area
Description
Stanford Cricket Club is the official Cricket Club of Stanford University and is registered with Northern California Cricket Association (NCCA). It has been in existence in various guises since the early years of the NCCA, but re-emerged in a new light as recently as 1999. Prior to 1999, the club had operated two teams, but they were related only in name, and not in practice. It was decided at that point to separate the two teams completely, and thence came the rebirth of Stanford Cricket Club. With a strong membership of over 50, the club now runs two competitive teams and one social team bringing cricket to every skill and interest level. The club plays in the NCCA B and C Division League games.
Supported by the University's Club Sports programme, Stanford is comprised of students (both undergraduate and graduate), professors (belonging to departments ranging from the business school to anthropology), and even a band of die-hard alumni. As of the summer of 2005 'home field advantage' took on a new meaning for the club when after years of discussions and negotiations, the club was awarded a ground on campus on which to build a cricket facility. With the help of our dedicated members, Roble Field is now the Stanford Cricket Ground. The ground, although small by most standards, is incredibly picturesque and warm. It is lined with huge trees on three sides, the open side looking on to the Roble Gymnasium about 200 yards away from the pitch. There isn't a nicer place to play in our opinion.
The pitch is astro turf on concrete and is bouncy with good carry to the keeper. There is ample parking on the side of the ground, restrooms in the gym building and a shed for storage of all our cricketing equipment (thanks to Zain Khan for his generous donation). With its own facility, the club is looking forward to many an hour spent in great surroundings, in the heart of the Silicon Valley, playing cricket, socializing with like minded people and lazing the summer away. Come out and see for yourself
