Description
Assemblyman Jeff Brown has called upon the state Legislature to enact a law creating a series of felony offenses for unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle. Currently the law is a mere violation and so because the current punishment for failing to obey a police officer is lenient, individuals try to outrun knowing that the punishment if caught is not great.
The time is now while the tragedy of Craig's death is fresh in our minds to change the Penal Law. Just a week ago this bill was passed by the State Senate BUT not it needs to be passed in the Assembly. This is where you come in.
We need to convince our Assembly members especially Sheldon Silver to act on this bill BEFORE they recess in a few weeks. Please write or E-mail your District Assembly Member. You can find who that person is by going to the website http://assembly.state.ny.us/mem If you enter your zip code it will give you the assemblymember for your district and/or write to Speaker Sheldon Silver
