Description
Born out of frustration due to frequent downtime, spam and generally rubbish service from a free e-mail service provider (despite avoid ing ever using hotmail), rothar.com has developed into a bike-related website with a slant towards mountain biking and the mountain biking lifestyle. Whilst the latter is a concept that many people struggle to get to grips with, I think it's quite well summed up by publications like Shred and the philosophy of companies like Howies.
Originally designed in a shonky version of HTML, rothar.com converted to an equally shonky version of CSS and HTML in November 2003. It's a constantly changing reflection of what has happened and what is happening in the world of bikes and the interweb. The site is gradually moving from it's original format to the current setup but it's a work in progress.
The site is maintained by Cris Bloomfield whose first experience of riding anything with two wheels offroad was downhilling on a scooter with a friction brake two-up with his Dad and blowing out the rear tyre. The first bike he can remember owning was a Raleigh Burner, which was superseded by a mountain bike in the late 1980s.
