We, the Newark Police Department, serve the diverse population within our jurisdiction with respect, fairness and sensitivity. We are committed to the protection of life and property, the prevention of crime and the safeguarding of Constitutional guarantees. Empowered by the community, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life and fostering a sense of security to enable citizens to live, work, be educated and prosper in the City of Newark. We nurture the public's trust by holding ourselves to the highest standards of performance and integrity. We, the men and women of the Newark Police Department who represent the varied cultures in this city, pledge that through our efforts, we will establish a new standard of excellence in law enforcement and service to our community.
Vision Statement
Newark Police Department’s Vision is a city with safe streets and neighborhoods without the fear of crime and juvenile delinquency. A city where residents feel secure in their homes and their children can play, and be educated in a carefree environment. Partnerships are developed and cultivated with institutions within our borders-churches, schools, businesses, social and government agencies-to address crime issues, and to build upon crime reduction efforts. A place where people prosper, business owners are encouraged to invest in joint ventures with the City of Newark; and diverse communities provide neighborhood crime input, realizing that through community-policing successful crime control strategies are developed.
