In recognition of the men and women who have dedicated their careers and lives to make citizens and communities safer from both natural disasters and terrorist events, the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) is announcing the "Distinguished Service in Emergency Management Award."
This is the first time in NEMA's 32-year history that the association has created such an award. The prestigious honor will be presented annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions throughout his or her career to any or all facets of emergency management. This includes the areas of preparedness, mitigation, response or recovery at a local, state, regional or national level. The career accomplishments should be of unusual merit. read more...
To strengthen this country's emergency managment system, NEMA offered 21 recommendations to the Senate Homeland Security leadership. They include linking preparedness to response and recovery in federal emergency management; having adequate staffing at FEMA's national and regional offices, and allowing federal emergency management to take the lead on the National Response Plan.
