Welcome to MunchkinMenus! As parents we strive to understand what our children need to develop into thriving adults. Health and nutrition are key for that development, but what do we do when our children become more independent and start choosing what they will and won't eat?
Around the age of 2, most foods (except for those that are choking hazards) are widely acceptable and that's when children really start to understand the difference of yummy or yucky! Many children at this age will move into a "picky eater" phase as they become independent and try various foods.
A "picky eater" may mean different things for different children. Some children may only eat 3 or 4 foods. Others may only eat foods with the same texture or same ingredients. Some children may only want the pre-packaged, processed foods that they see at just the right level at all grocery stores. The good news is that most of the time, it is just that - a phase. The other good news is that you can help them through this phase quickly if you know how to get them to eat a wider variety of foods and you have the right recipes to tempt their tastebuds.
