Google pagerank was first created by google in 1998 and quickly expanded when the google toolbar came out. The google pagerank is supposed to show how many other sites link to your website. The principle idea is the more links you have to your site, the higher pagerank you will achieve. This is true, but this is just the beginning of the pagerank formula. Google also takes into effect the pagerank of the sites that are linking to you, meaning if you have a pagerank 7 website linking to you, and another site linking to you that has a pagerank 2, the pagerank 7 link gives you a great boost in your pagerank. SEO (search engine optimization) experts have taken this a step further and written out algorithms.
