Enbridge Energy Partners is an energy transportation company with its headquarters at Houston. It has inherited its name Enbridge from its parent company, Enbridge Inc., a Canadian business house that also holds a 16.6 % stake in the firm through one of its group company- Enbridge Energy Company Inc. Since its inception, the day to day affairs and activities of the company are looked after by Enbridge energy Management, which is a U.S. affiliate of Enbridge Inc.
Chief Operations
Enbridge Energy Partners’ business hovers around two main categories:
- Liquid Pipelines delivering crude oil, Liquid petroleum in Mid-Continent & Gulf Coast regions of the United States. These pipelines deliver liquid oil from Oil Sands to major United States refinery markets.
- Natural Gas Transportation which accumulates natural gas from the wellhead refines the same and transmits it to the large customers and distribution companies.
It has both onshore and off-shore inter-state pipeline systems. Enbridge Energy Partners also owns quite a few intrastate pipeline systems in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Alabama etc.
Other Services
Marketing Services are provided by Enbridge Marketing which is an owned subsidiary of Enbridge Energy Partners. In its marketing operations it procures natural gas from producers and sells them to large customers and levies its fees in form of service charges and transportation costs.
It also undertakes risk management of price movement by hedging future sales contracts.
Transportation Services are provided by Dufour Petroleums, another subsidiary owned by Enbridge Energy Partners. As the company owns a fleet of trucks, trailers and railcars, it is able to provide quick and immediate transportation, thus providing fast access of its products to the markets. It also provides intermediate transport service for transportation of gas and crude oil for processing and refining.
Storage facilities for gas and oil are also provided by the company as it owns more than 5.6 million barrels of storage capacity.
Expansion Program
With a view to make Enbridge Energy Partners the biggest transporter of oil and gas the company has a large number of expansion projects in pipeline. It is continuously trying to strengthen its roots in the field of petroleum and gas transportation. With more and more supplies from oil sands and an expected large growth, there is a huge demand for pipeline transportation.
