Welcome to Dub Selector. This page is simply here to enhance my own experience with dub music, and hopefully inspire others along the way. I will try and post an occasional review myself, but hope to build this page mostly with the contribution of it's visitors and users. Please feel free to drop me a line with any comments, or follow the links at the bottom of each section to contribute your insight.

In the past there have been many Japanese musicians that have made their big break overseas then have become recognized in their native country. Here is another band that is actively performing at clubs and live houses in Brooklyn, New York. Chimp Beams are a trio that has been included in the much hyped compilation album "Listening is Believing". The three Japanese formed in 2001 landed back in Japan as a breath of fresh air to the rigid Japanese music scene.

To my surprise they have succeeded in making visual sound which hadn't been created well by Japanese before. The sound is based on dubs, slow and dark down beats are added, and on top of this there is a mixture of instruments such as guitars, melodica, vibraphone, which sometimes included ethnic vocals. So we can simply say that they play an assortment of varied sounds. When their music is heard, one can easily recognize that their sound is influenced by Massive Attack and Basic Channel. However their dark mood is too challenging for Japanese to produce. Has any Japanese band successfully digested the reggae dubs and jazz sounds of Massive Attack, and have been able to create their own originality based on their influences? It has been said that in their live performances which are meticulously arranged, we can also hear their aggressive improvisations.
