The importance of backing up…

Well after a week or so of downtime, I was finally able to get everything back up and running. About two weeks ago, I received an email from the webhosting company that this site is hosted at (mher.org) saying that the server my site was on was under heavy denial-of-service attacks and that they were taking the server offline soon. It said that my site would be moved to a new server but that I should make a backup “just in case”. Well, the site never got moved. Once the old server was taken down, everything was gone and they didn’t even bother emailing me to let me know what was up. Finally, after a week went by, I emailed them. To make a long story short, they had to recreate an account for me on a new server and I had to reinstall Wordpress and all of the plugins that I had installed with it. Luckily, I had a recent backup of the sql database and was able to restore everything. Moral of the story: Don’t host with.. I mean, always back up your data!
