Title
Duke Energy Field Services (DEFS)
Description
Duke Energy Field Services (DEFS) has become DCP Midstream, LLC
Excerpted from the website:
- Welcome to the new DCP Midstream
- On Jan. 1, 2007, we began a new chapter in our evolution. We renamed ourselves DCP Midstream to align with the identity of the very successful master limited partnership we launched in 2005, DCP Midstream Partners, LP. Coincidentally, Duke Energy's 50 percent ownership transferred to Spectra Energy and we continue to enjoy strong parent support from both Spectra Energy and ConocoPhillips.

Additional Information
Duke Energy Field Services, LP had a change of ownership on 1/1/2007 when Duke Energy sold its 50% interest in its named Field Services division (DEFS). At the same time Duke Energy spun off its Gas Transmission division (DEGT) to be a publicly traded company named Spectra Energy. Spectra then took the 50% ownership position in the Field Services division. With this change in ownership the Duke brand name could no longer be used and DCP Midstream, LLC was formed. The other 50% ownership of DCP Midstream, LLC is ConocoPhillips Corporation. Speculation is that the DCP moniker is derived from the combination of the initials from Duke and ConocoPhillips. The Director of Public Affairs for DCP Midstream has stated that DCP are not initials and do not stand for Duke and ConocoPhillips, citing that Duke was exiting the midstream gas business and was no longer associated with DEFS. Sources in the company point to the fact that a Master Limited Partnership named DCP Midstream Partners, LP was launched in 2005 long before the Duke Energy divestiture in 2007.
