Tokusatsu means (in it's original language, japanese) special effects series. When these contracted words are pronnounced people from most parts of the world remember some names:

  • Kamen Rider (famous "insect warrior heroes")
  • Super Sentai (famous groups that fights for justice)
  • Kyodai Hero (the giant heroes, like Ultraman)
  • Chou Sei Shin (the new Toho's production, that means "Warrior Gods")
  • Metal Heroes (known by their armors and special techniques of fighting)

Japan started these series many years ago and they have crossed oceans to France,Philipines,China,Brazil,Italy and many other countries.

Different from other hero series made in the world, the tokusatsu have start-medium-final episode produced. And when one season is finished another in the same style always begin (except by Chou Sei Shin and Metal Heroes, near extinction).

The characters mixed with good action and explosions takes these productions to a very high rate in fans minds even today, so many years from their creation.

The japanese enterprises that produces these series are:

  • TOEI COMPANY (Kamen Riders,Metal Heroes and Super Sentai)
  • TOHO COMPANY (Chou Sei Shin and Godzilla)
  • TSUBARAYA PRODUCTIONS (Ultraman)

Today in America and parts of Europe and Asia Saban-Disney have lounched the "Power Rangers" series using Super Sentai effects and stunt actors, mixing with american actors (without combat suits). This have made some rapid profit for the enterprises (Toei, inclusive) but the "magic" of tokusatsu maybe have been lost forever...
