Article structure
Articles on wikiHow are highly structured, with the intent of maintaining the how-to manual feel of the website. Generally, articles start with a summary of the idea or topic to be explained, followed by step-by-step instructions for the activity, along with any required items, warnings, tips and ingredients necessary. Related how-to articles and pictures are also included where applicable to help with instruction.
History and Additional Information
wikiHow started as an extension of the popular eHow.com website, and was spun off into its own site and domain in April 2006 when eHow was sold. Run with minimal "tasteful, non-obnoxious advertising," wikiHow is a for-profit organization which provides its information to anyone in the world free of charge.
Because wikiHow uses the MediaWiki engine as their back-end, it's used similar in use to other MediaWiki-based websites likeWikipedia or Wikitravel, but does have a variety of modifications to both the interface and structure.
