I and a friend of mine came up with a website that works like a bulletin board for those looking for rides and those with cars looking for riders. Our website address is www.rideshare.us.com The site is free to perform search.
It covers US with a granularity of individual counties. Instead of the county where the carpool starts, a name of a user group (i.e. college name) can be used. This option is particularly useful for college commute arrangements.
