When [[Octavia Butler]] came to speak at Pomona College in the fall of 2002, she told us that if we want to write novels, we don't really need any talent but the willingness to persevere.  Writing a novel takes a massive commitment of time and effort, and the biggest danger is simply that you will give up in the middle.

Creativity may be the most powerful gift of intelligence.  And if we keep trying to apply the same tired old solutions to our rapidly mutating global problems, it's clear that we will fail miserably.  Yes, the forces of technological innovation got us into this mess.  They're also the only thing powerful enough to get us out of it in one piece.

Creativity is the power to imagine a better future.
Without Creativity,
we could only Hope for stasis, a continuance of the way things are,
denying Pragmatism, which teaches that Change is Eternal.
Perseverence in the mission of fighting Change always fails eventually.

Creativity may be the most powerful gift of intelligence. And if we keep trying to apply the same tired old solutions to our rapidly mutating global problems, it's clear that we will fail miserably. Yes, the forces of technological innovation got us into this mess. They're also the only thing powerful enough to get us out of it in one piece.
