Un wiki ne se développe pas souvent exactement de la façon dont nous nous y serions attendus ou comme nous l'aurions espéré. Il est tentant mais mais incroyablement inefficace d'exisger que d'autres fassent les choses de notre manière. En d'autres mots : tout ce que nous faisons ici, nous le faisons en tant que communauté -- chaque page wiki, chaque portail est un travail communal. En contribuant sur un wiki, nous faisons confiance dans la communauté pour reconnaître la valeur de notre travail. Le plus grand défi est alors de respecter la communauté, même si nous ne pourrions pas être toujours d'accord.

Reconnaitre la valeur et la volonté de la communauté est la première étape pour suivre le reste de La Voie Du Wiki. En fait, bon nombre des principes de de La Voie Du Wiki deviennent évidents une fois que nous nous connectons avec la confiance que c'est véritablement "About Us" ! (NDT : A Propos de Nous !)

Connecting it to the Core

Its About Us connects seamlessly to our three other core-values: Assume Good Faith, Real People, and Be A Builder. To commit to the values of Its About Us -- essentially an acceptance of communal endeavour -- we must first Assume Good Faith by trusting and valuing the community we are engaging with. In a similar vein, it is easier to work with a community of Real People than their handles. Finally, in order to be an active member of About Us, you must Be A Builder by contributing to the site.

Why is this important?

Working as a community creates a multi-faceted, information-rich commons. By embracing collaboration instead of battling it, we all improve. It's better for each of us if we all work together.

How do I do it?

1. When you disagree with someone on a wiki, it is tempting to delete their point of view and replace it with your own. Instead, respect their point of view, even if you find it misguided, and respond to it with your own. This will afford other visitors a balanced perspective and fairly represent both sides.
2. When someone makes a change to your work that you don't find helpful, let it sit for a full week before you touch it again. Perhaps by the time you return you will see it with different eyes. Or, better yet, perhaps someone else will resolve the conflict.
3. If you practice ItsAboutUs while editing, feel free to add {{Badge:ItsAboutUsNotAboutMe}} to your user page so that you can help propagate the Meme.
4. Occasionally remind yourself that Its About Us when you find yourself overly-attached to your own way of doing things.
