Assume Good Faith

As a core value, assuming good faith means that we believe everyone who makes an edit or creates a page is doing so to provide informative, educational and accurate information--that they are trying to make constructive edits and are interested in doing good and building things.

From editing an existing page to creating a new page, portal or community, we must assume that people have come to help build, not break AboutUs.

Everyone makes mistakes and the nature of a wiki makes it really easy to correct mistakes that we find. In fact, a wiki cries out for that kind of attention. It's how wiki pages become self-organizing.

To assume good faith means that when we find an error and work to correct it, we remember that the person who made the error was also working to make the resource better.

Because there is a history of all edits made to AboutUs, it is really easy to find edits that constitute vandalism or spam. To assume good faith in the face of evidence to the contrary, we assume that maybe they don't understand the rules or social norms of AboutUs. Maybe they are excited about the fact that they can edit, and are unintentionally spamming. We believe we need to approach people to explain, welcome and try to understand where they are coming from.
