Today's mission: new screencast

topic: Why create an account?
script:
Spoken Text Stage Directions
Welcome to AboutUs Headshot of Ted speaking
I'm Ted on the left, and that's Mark on the right. He'll be clicking through the screen while I talk. The topic of today's screencast is Why create an account? Big WHY
When you sign up for an account and log in, located in the upper right-hand corner, Sign Up button Login button
you will see your account box. Hover over account box
When you click your name you go to you own personal page. hover over "personal page" link, then over the name
You can write a little about about yourself, or a lot. Ray's personal page, scroll down
You also have a talk page where people can leave you comments. Your talk page is located under your name in the account box. Ray's talk page, hovering over talkpage, then over "my talk"
When someone leaves you a message, the account box turns yellow. yellow box notification
Another feature is the ability to watch pages for changes. To add a page, you click the watch link. hover over watch eye
To see the changes to these pages, click on "my watchlist". You can also get updates by email. hovering over "my watchlist"
Another great benefit of logging in is that you can Upload images. It's easy put them on the left, or on the right. Switch windows to page with images, scroll down
I'll bet you'll use this next one a lot. Norad Areal Estate. Hmmmm. That seems wrong. You can use the move page link to change the capitalization. It's easy. Snap fingers. Pause. misnamed page that gets fixed
Let's go back to the account box. You can see your work by clicking my contributions. This is great for finding what pages you've recently worked on, because sometimes you forget the pagename. no pause on the NordaRealEstate.com page show Mark's contributions
The last link in your account box, besides logout, pause is "my preferences". click on the preferences tab
Among the many options there, is how you sign your name. There are simple ways and fancier ways. Pause Kristina's signature, Vartan's, Ray's?, Mark's, Kasey
Logging in gives us not only some great extra features, but also allows us to get to know each other. While we appreciate the contributions of LGONZ23 and Eternalwarrior, feel how different it is to work with Steven, Vartan, Cody, Julia, Ray, Kasey and Diego. We prefer you use your name here. view WhosOnline, and move mouse over the names
Ted and Mark, signing off. See you on the wiki. the opening photo

notes

  • make the font size as big as possible in the browser
  • make the mouse pointer as big as possible with universal access tools
  • let's call the intro one done and move on to another one - the list of possibilities is below - as we make more, we can start to organize a VideoFAQ (Category:WikiAnatomy) as well as post them on the weblog as well as on the appropriate help page.

ScreenCast/IntroScript

next steps

'questions and answers and learnings

  • ShinyWhiteBox.com - program called iShowU - $20
  • no editing - it's just one take - the first one took 15 takes, re-doing until feels like it's more or less right
  • 45 min, start to finish, Julia and Mark, wrote script over lunch
  • minute long, make 30 seconds long?
  • we can post these on facebook or other places
  • topic of the first one? "Welcome to AboutUs"
  • let's publish the script with each one so anyone else can then modify the script, record their own version, and the community can decide which is the "official" version of any of these at any one time, but we could have a gallery of each topic videos - need to figure out how to organize this
  • need to be not-logged in to AboutUs and also google
  • record screen or window - you can set it
  • you can set the start and stop hotkeys
  • In the editing process if the thing that the mouse is point to could be highlighted somehow... red circle around it, kind of pulled off the screen and made bigger (hard to explain what I mean)... that would help. Like for the "ContactUs" link the "Useful Links" box could be closed, then opened and circle the link to "contact us." I think right before hitting the edit tab in this to highlight the many edit tabs would help people see them.
  • All in all, I think it is awesome. The capabilities of a screen cast thing-y and audio go beyond what something like WikiAnatomy can offer for a beginner overview, walk you through it sort of thing... yay!

Try to set up a vendor share, like Brandon did with OmniGroup.com by using Amrosiasw.com screencastonline.com
