RateStar.com.au featured discussion

  • Edit/Add to this Discussion
  • Nomination processed on 26 Sept. 2007 (after a nomination from a few weeks ago that had slipped through the cracks).
  • very decent page. I would like to see some small product pictures if you have any available or at least some type of pictures to liven up the page. The information and links you have provided are extensive, which is good as long as you have something to keep the left brain occupied too! Do you have any videos? or would you be interested in adding a map? If you need any assistance or ideas, just leave me a message on my talk page. Bryan Daugherty, Talk Page
  • Pictures would definitely add to this page! Furthermore, I'd like to see things organized more concisely - I too am intimidated by all the links. ChrisBabson | talk

RecyclingForCharities.com featured discussion

  • Edit/Add to this Discussion
  • First nominated on 09:38, 22 September 2007 (PDT)
  • I for one am quite excited about this nomination, because I get the sense that this organization is doing a great job in helping to take consumer waste (old cell phones, ink cartridges) and finding a way to have these benefit other charities. That said, there's probably some work to be done to really polish up the WikiPage before it's "Feature worthy". Some basic thoughts:
    • More information about the Recycling for Charities organization
    • Information on the charities this organization helps (and by donating an old cell phone, can I choose specifically which charity, or does my support go towards a general pool)
    • This could lead to some basic "frequently asked questions" about the organization, the charities and how the process works
    • Maybe a testimonial from a charity that's been helped by this organization...
Just some of my quick thoughts. I hope they help, as I said I'm very interested in helping to nurture this as a "featured" candidate and helping to build out a great resource on this organization right here on AboutUs. -- TakCaricatureSm.jpg TakKendrick | Talk 17:00, 3 October 2007 (PDT)

  • This is a decent start, and there ARE some positive things going on, however, there isnt much to discuss.. I think it may help you to check out the past featured pages so that you can gain some insight on what it means to be featured here at AboutUS. Please do not miscontrue these comments as negative, they just mean that it takes something special to be featured and it is entirely possible that this page will be in the future with some constructive editing. If you would like some help, or need some more ideas, please leave me a message on my talk page.. I look forward to checking back in the future and seeing something pop out! Bryan Daugherty, Talk Page
  • This page looks very good to me! The only remaining issue I see is just filling it out more. If it were twice as long that would be the appropriate level of depth and we'd be in business. ChrisBabson | talk

ReplacementCounters.com featured discussion

  • A ton of great information and a thoughtfully put together wiki page. Minor tweaks I suggest are add images and eeds some formatting, but the page has great bones. Great work. Kasey 11:26, 3 December 2007 (PST)

  • Edit/Add to this Discussion
  • Nomination process on 2-Oct-2007.
  • I think we need to provide more details to the readers about SamsBiz.com. Right now the page contains very little useful information about this business.
  • The page will look better with some images, logo and other relevant stuff. See examples of previously featured pages here.

SocialDeviancy.com featured discussion

  • Edit/Add to this Discussion
  • Added to nomination process on 5 June 2007, from an old nomination that hadn't been processed.
  • I for one, love that this page was nominated, in part because of the question it raises. Although the website is not pornographic in nature, it does carry and "adult" warning due to content, and I wonder whether it's appropriate to spotlight this kind of website given that AboutUs is a resource for some younger people as well as those who might be more conservative that this website might offend. While I don't personally have a problem with this stuff (and am pleased that such issues are address on the internet), is this something the AboutUs community feels should be spotlighted? -- TakCaricatureSm.jpg TakKendrick | Talk
    • Was this question ever resolved, Tak? It seems like an unusual amount of site for a nomination to sit idle without any resolution at all. Did the submission happen to slip through the cracks again? =( - Vaelor 23:29, 12 July 2007 (PDT)
      • Hi Vaelor. Perhaps the purpose of my message last month here wasn't clear. This is the place for the discussion to take place on this. I'd been waiting for people from the community to come and discuss this here. I know that several AboutUs community members have looked at the nominees list, although no one has made a comment on this nomination or issue. And no, a month isn't an unusual amount of time on these, depending on buy-in from the community. Generally after two or three months, the discussion on featured nominations are "closed" to keep the nominees list paired down (although the option is always available to renominate pages that have been worked on).
I'm sorry if this has been confusing, with as many nominations as we get, once we've left a message with concerns or suggested actions to take the ball really is in the court of the WikiPage builder and community. I've been watching this page (both the main SocialDeviancy.com and the Feature Discussion) for several month and waiting for action or comment.
If you'd like to see a good example of the kind of community discussion that can promote a page (with similar concerns), see: RFSHQ.com. -- TakKendrick | Talk 12:11, 13 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Thanks for your prompt reply Tak. Obviously the community just isn't paying any attention to the nomination, or have decided it has not enough merit to even warrant a brief response. I guess it's out of my hands either way, but thanks for your consideration anyhow. - Vaelor 19:45, 13 July 2007 (PDT)
I understand that Tak's concerns about this site's being appropriate or not to get featured are quite realistic, and also feel that some people might find it offensive. Personally however, I'd love to have it featured. Asad | *~talk~* 02:21, 24 October 2007 (PDT)

SoftPress.com featured discussion

  • Edit/Add to this Discussion
  • First nominated on 11:05, 4 January 2008 (PST)
  • Redirected Article to its relevant domain page.
  • I'd been in contact via email with Ian Schray (who created this page) over the past week or so. Some of the thoughts for improvement I mentioned to him are:
* This a pretty decent page about the products, but doesn't really say much about the company. I like to think that the "AboutUs" page should include some info about the company, even if it's just a quick paragraph: "Founded in BLAH-BLAH-BLAH, Softpress has offices in YADA-YADA." (Maybe something on Intaglio too. Are there other products Softpress offers?)

* Fuller product descriptions, probably including pricing, and a link to the respective product pages for more info.

* Maybe in addition to the Pro v. Express list (which is a good start), there can be some sort of paragraph explaining which version suits what type of people or needs. The price difference between the two is so huge, I for one as a potential customer think for $90 download I might take a chance on the Express ('cause I really hate GoLive and have never fallen in love with Dreamweaver), but if that one feature I need is going to cost me $250 for the Pro, I'm more likely to want to play with Dreamweaver for the price, just because it's got the street cred.

* On that note, maybe even a "why this is better than the competition" section wouldn't be a bad thing. Somewhere on the Softpress website I read one advantage was the "clean code" generation over other WYSIWYG editors that keep the old code. That was a serious sales point for me (although now I can't find where I read that).

* Customer testimonials (if you have them). Even just a link to them on an external site goes a long ways.
These were just my thoughts, but figured I'd let everyone see what I'd been thinking/mentioned to him as suggested edits. -- TakKendrick | talk Comment_green.gif 16:40, 8 January 2008 (PST)
  • Moving to LastChance today after no work on the page in quite some time. Please edit this discussion and/or the page to make the nomination active again. Asad | *~talk~* 04:17, 29 February 2008 (PST)

  • Alright, You are doing a great job and I like some of the things you have added such as the youtube video, which I feel could be used much more in featues sites. Also, the header is really cool! However, heres a few things I noticed that make the page not ready in my opinion, -the red links.. only link something internally if it has a corresponding article (unless you plan to go back and add those articles in the future. Also, the content section could be expanded or condensed depending on how you approach it. There is also the ability to remove or slide over the "toc" (table of contents). This will make room for more pictures as well.. If you need any help, just leave me a message on my talk page. Bryan Daugherty, Bryan's Talk Page

  • This page looks good and will become a stronger candidate with some contact information and an address. Obed Suhail 02:47, 10 November 2007 (PST)
  • Seems as if someone added contact information and email address. I like this article I think it is almost ready to be Featured. but it needs further editing, the writing above is just too overpowering and repititious. Repeating the Suttle name is annoying and takes away from the article itself. also no need to have the history of the Suttle person. A click on the link will bring all that to life. I am going to copyedit this tomorrow.Patty42 20:11, 28 November 2007 (PST)
  • I did a full copyedit and removed excess picture. Article is now ready to be featured. Done done Patty42 08:13, 29 November 2007 (PST)
  • One thing I really loved is the "Suttle's Music" section, with the music samples. That really makes the difference on this page. And I think the page is ready to rock and roll ;) Cle Silva 14:16, 20 February 2008 (PST)

Tanzanite-Gemstone.com featured discussion

  • Edit/Add to this Discussion
  • Added to nomination process on 6 June 2007, from an old nomination that hadn't been processed.
  • This certainly is coming along nicely. A lot of information. I wonder about how to maybe infuse some graphical elements into the WikiPage though. Pictures of the gemstones perhaps? Or just the website logo? I just think a few images would polish this up nicely. -- TakKendrick 15:43, 6 June 2007 (PDT)
  • The page looks nice but it still needs some graphical elements, as Tak mentioned above. Right now there doesn't seem to be much activity going on there. Asad | *~talk~* 20:29, 10 October 2007 (PDT)
  • I liked this page - good, detailed information provided here on Tanzanite which is very useful. I also found http://www.lapigems.com and Tanzanite.com to be good sources.
  • More work was done on this page in November and it looks pretty good now. I'm moving it from Last Chance to Under Discussion section for now. Obed Suhail 06:00, 27 December 2007 (PST)

TazStar.com featured discussion

  • Edit/Add to this Discussion
  • Nomination process on 2-Oct-2007, after being nominated a few weeks ago.
  • The page looks great but there are a couple of things that might be done to improve it further. The first thing that strikes me here is that there is no contact information on this page. Also, it will be great, if we can have an image or two of the product itself on this page. Asad | *~talk~* 06:00, 16 October 2007 (PDT)
  • Good to see the product images added to this page. It's much further along now, but there's still no contact information or address on this page. The related domains section could be worked on too. Asad | *~talk~* 21:05, 21 November 2007 (PST)
  • I agree with Asad. Great page. With contact info, I think it's good to go. TedErnst (talk) 16:39, 19 February 2008 (PST)
  • I edited some sections and replaced a (not much attractive) picture by a better one (in my opinion). Just revert the changes if you don't like it. Also, I agree that since it's a commercial page, it needs at least a phone number for contact. I felt very tempted to place the toll free number they have on their site, but I was affraid they wouldn't agree with that. I liked the image gallery, however the images are lacking some description. Cle Silva 02:34, 21 February 2008 (PST)
  • After Cle's comments, I now see how much better this page could be with just a little more work one product descriptions (and even links to the pages for those products on your site?), plus the contact info, of course. TedErnst (talk) 08:27, 21 February 2008 (PST)

  • Good use of images to bring your page to life! The jacket looks great. I would consider adding a gallery of images. For more information on how to do this, contact us on IRC chat or see recent featured pages. Adding customer testimonials and community reviews can also really improve the quality of a page. I think the Description section could also use some more information: how are the clothes made? where are they primarily sold? where are they made? You're off to a great start. Keep up the good work. -- Blake Hinckley 14:56, 28 June 2007 (PDT)
  • Webmaster was emailed today to see if they're interested in working more on this page. Obed Suhail 23:21, 27 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Thank your for that email - was glad to oblige and added info on mudmee tie-dye.
  • Sorry for responding so late. Would you still be interested in working on this page? I think it would be great to have a product gallery on this page, and maybe a testimonials section, and some layout tweaks. The images on this page right now are great but maybe they can be a bit smaller? Asad | *~talk~* 03:12, 9 January 2008 (PST)

trafficwave.net featured discussion

One area that might make this page better is to help alleviate concerns others might have that this service could be used to create spam. What safeguards do you offer for the email receivers to avoid this. Asad | *~talk~* 23:04, 28 October 2007 (PDT)

    • TrafficWave.net uses a "double opt-in" confirmation which requires any submissions and/or subscription requests to be confirmed before their address can be entered in to the system.

For example, someone filling out a TrafficWave.net subscription form would receive a system confirmation message asking them to confirm that they did, indeed, request the information. They will then click a system-generated link to confirm. If the link is not confirmed, the address is not added to the database.
