: {{NotYet}} Let me start out by saying I think this policy is great. I do agree with Scott's thought though. I think this is part of a larger "Employee Benefits" conversation that we need to have. The fact that the Portland staff doesn't have health insurance is a much larger drain on my monthly resources than a one-off cost of a new laptop. I'm not saying that I don't support the laptop initiative (because I definitely think it's a great idea) but just that I think we need to start having the larger conversation before devoting resources to individual one-time needs rather than looking at something that effects a larger group of employees on a monthly basis. In a perfect world, we'd have the resources for both initiatives and I'm even willing to say, "Yes" on this one if there's an plan to implement a broader benefits package as soon as the resources are available (like after the funding round). {{EditIcon|LaptopPolicy:Status/TakKendrick}}

I do still think that this is part of a larger problem and realize the Kasey probably is saying it best in her concerns: Are the needs of the whole staff suited with this policy, or does it really only effect one set of our staff (ie those that didn't already buy their own laptops).

:My approach really is still to step back from laptop and talk about the technology needs of the staff and see if there's a common solution. In Portland we've all bought our own machines and have been using these for over a year, in Lahore it appears that the company has provided workstations (I could be wrong about this) but the staff there would like to have laptops. I feel we have completely different needs technologically (and we probably don't even know the landscape of what all these needs are); we need a policy/plan that addresses all of these instead of just one set of needs that doesn't apply to the other half of the staff.

NotYet Now that there's been some other movement on Employee Benefits, I am more interested in this conversation (take a look at the history for my previous comments). I do still think that this is part of a larger problem and realize the Kasey probably is saying it best in her concerns: Are the needs of the whole staff suited with this policy, or does it really only effect one set of our staff (ie those that didn't already buy their own laptops).

My approach really is still to step back from laptop and talk about the technology needs of the staff and see if there's a common solution.
We're a creative company full of creative ideas, what I'm looking for/hoping for here is some sort of "out of the box" solution that suits a variety of needs instead of "band aids" that only address some users concerns. Edit-chalk-10bo12.png edit
