- As the year came to an end, I decided to embark on a new project: a website geared toward helping beginning freelance writers learn to earn a living writing from home. As a relatively new freelance writer myself, I'd visited many great sites for writers and often wished there were more sites that spoke directly to those of us just starting our freelance writing careers. I wanted to create a site that answered questions like, "What the heck is a query letter exactly, and how can I learn to write one that will actually let an editor know that even though I'm new to freelancing, I have what it takes to write a good article?" Or, "What am I supposed to do about health insurance now that I've quit my job to work at home?" And, "Now that I'm self-employed, how do I pay my taxes?" I wanted to create an informative site, one that could give insight into breaking into new writing markets from people who've done it. Basically, I wanted to contribute something and learn a little bit in the process.
